Dual Wield Magic Extend

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 2:26 pm

Greeting, I've being toying an idea since I heard of the dual casting mechanism. According to a post on general forum, current system of dual casting basically increase the damage by 10% (10% more than casting the same spell twice), but also increase the magicka cost by 40%. While with the impact perk, the mechanism is interesting, but I think we, the modding community, can elevate the dual casting system to a complete new level.

The idea is basically this: create new spell for dual casting

For example *warning, examples may contain spoiler for people who aren’t playing a mage.

Spoiler

Flame + Fire Rune : rune burst out flame for x duration
Flame + Fireball : ignite the area where the ball impact
Spark + Chainlignting : target hit by chain lightning will shoots out spark, damage everyone around him.
Icestorm + Frost Spike : the orb shoots out spike when it travel (remember the frost orb from Diablo 2?)

We can also combine spells of different elements
Spoiler

Fire Spell + Frost Spike : target suffer ignite damage for the duration the spike stuck on the target
Fire Ball + Chain Lightning : Every target hit by the chain explode
Flame + Frostbite : melt your foe with steam!
Soultrap + any summon : your creature capture soul if deal finishing blow

How about spell from different school of magic?
Spoiler

Fire Spell + Ward : absorb fire
Flame + Atronach : your atronach now cast flame instead of fire bolt
Healing spell + Zombie : now you have a walking dead heal bot!

Maybe which hand matter?
Spoiler

Right hand: Atronach Left hand: Fire Ball = an atronach who casts fire ball
Left hand: Fire Ball Right hand: Atronach = an atronach burst out from the impact area

Right hand: Chain Lightning Left hand: Spark = target hit by chain lightning will shoots out spark, damage everyone around him.
Left hand: Spark Right hand: Chain Lightning = the spark will jump from one target to another

Man, I can go on forever, there are just too many combinations! I will have to make a spreadsheet for it. What do you guys think? While waiting for the kit, this is a good place to discuss and polish the idea.

It seems like a promising idea. There will be balance issues at first, but I think it's a good idea. I'd certainly try it.

I think making it so that the spell changes depending on which hand it is equipped to is a little overboard on the complexity, and with the current default UI would be annoying to use effectively.

Though I really do like the idea of dual casting spells that are not of the same type, and maybe the different hand thing would be better off in combination of a mod that fixes the UI and key binds.

pfft I've been mulling around that Idea since March or so, but Im not gonna bloat your thread with that Long ass post ;p, its still in the back somewhere of the modding forum collecting dust., and Steam would by pass resist fire/resist shock, do low damage but would disorient or "stagger" them as well as making them weak to shock.

so

you shower with Steam, and then shock them to death. just a smigen of whats in that aforementioned long ass post.

This would really add some great diversity for mages. I would love to see this, and I'm sure many others would too.

This is a great idea. I thought this was the way developers wanted to go when i heard of seperated casting per hand. A lot of ideas can maybe be borrowed from Magicka. ;)
Hope someone tries to create such a mod. I could only contribute with combinations.
