Dual wield with light armor viable?

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 11:08 pm

After rewatching Game of Thrones I was inspired to try a Braveros type of character but with 2 swords. Quick, agile, sly and with a sharp tongue. I want to try using Light Armor for a better stamina regen allowing for a lot of flurry attacks but was wondering if I would get destroyed with time because of my light armor. I plan on playig on default difficulty. Any advice or experiences to share? Thanks in advance!

On Masters with this play style im getting destroyed by anyone in heavy armor. Even back out of attacks, one or two shots and your SOL.

It is doable, but until you level your light armor skill you will be at a serious disadvantage since you can't block and you can't take the kind of damage heavy armor can soak. I have a thief/light warrior that DW, and I have no trouble inside dungeons where I can sneak, but outdoors I die easily against Bandits/Sabre Cats, often times getting one shotted by the Sabre Cats. I do play on Expert, so it would be a little easier for you on default setting.

EDIT: DId not see your post about sneaking, that will make it a little more difficult. Should consider doing Alchemy so you can have a big stockpile of stamina and health pots. This will allow you to heal instantly and do a lot of power attacks, which you will need since it will be a race to kill every enemy and keep them staggered before they can hit you more than once or twice.

why would you wanna do that? fluff wise? well its viable maybe with alteration and the armor spells...but honestly, i'd probably rather go mage warrior and focus hardcoe on alteration (mage armor and elemental shields) + conjuration (dual bound swords and help from your summons)

Heavy armor doesn't affect your stamina if you have the Steed Stone. Have fun :)

Im playing my character like Conan, meaning I only wear fur armor and carry a 2 hander. Its been tough at times but is much more rewarding than throwing on some plate metal and being invincible. Level 31 on adept btw.

Just level up smithing and your light armor will be the same as the heavy. The armor cap is really low and easy to get to.

I play a light armor dual wielder, I just improved all my armor and weapons I got. I can pretty much destroy anything before they get to me and even if they do, I don't take that much damage from lesser mobs. I have to abuse the "Turn Ethereal" shout however in order to stay alive for stronger ones.

I am playing quite the same kind of character. light armor, dual-wielded, no magic (except healing) at expert. I think default difficulty won′t be too hard but you should prepare yourself to die more often. Especially Enemies with two-handed weapons and wizards can be ridiculous hard. You have to find alternative ways for fighting and this can end in trial and error. e.g. using traps in dungeons to eliminate enemies or spamming potions on "cooldown". That are worst-case sceneries but they happen. Nevertheless for me this is a kind of challenge which provides me with maximum fun ;-)

I dual wield with light armor and it is totally viable, at first you might have some major trouble, but once you get a few perks and some potions to fall back on you'll be a beast.

I also usually just wear things I think look cool, so if you go with the best all the way it might be a lot easier.

Have a plan B. And C. Having some flexibility in your build is going to make problem-solving easier when the game throws you a curveball.

For what it's worth, my current char dual-wields daggers in heavy armor (although light armor would be fine too). I also sneak/backstab/stealth-arrow quite a bit. I made my own gear, but didn't power-level smithing (or anything, really). The basic improved steel/improved wolf armor is plenty good. Same with the weapons. Superior daggers in each hand.

Not to be an overly technical [censored] but Syrio only fought with one sword, and from what I could gather Braavosi swordsmen fight in a style that amounts to fencing (one sword and lots of dodging/quick stabs). So what I would try is a character specializing in one handed fighting with perks in block as well (for parrying and creating an opening for more stabbing).

It is very much viable, I am playing a light armored khajiit dual wielding dagger/sword, no alteration and almost no archery. You need to focus on smithing (have to upgrade your armor!), sneak, alchemy, one hand weapons (get dual wield perks of course and power attack perks) and light armor(get the stamina regeneration perk). It has been a very enjoyable experience so far and I am level 47 atm. The hardest part is deciding between stamina or health when leveling up. You need health to survive of course but you will want stamina to pull off a series of deadly dual wield power attacks when sneaking fails or just isnt a option. Your motta should be offense is the best defense, unless they dont even see it coming

I believe you're right, the Braavosi swordsmen your speaking of are called water dancers. You wouldn't use two swords but one, no armor or shields as they would only slow a water dancer down.

Ho I forgot I won't be sneaking.
im very like you with yet im going very well and switch from sword and shield to duel weild yet im a light amoured assaian, i find that the two best weapons to duel is daggers when the emeny is slow (trolls, heavy amoured) and axes for more light enemys, encatment wise i like 1 second praliyce so i have twice as much chance to get an emeny on the ground and which i can the tear the prices out of them (affect agasint enemys who use shield or larger groups) or you can use the elemental shout which triples the speed you attack yet you cant have an enchament.

I originally started my classic Archer/Sneak combo, but I realized I've always played that in the Elder Scrolls series. So, I decided to try Dual Wielding with Light Armor instead

It's a bit challenging early in the game. Example, at level 8 or 9, I encountered an Ice Troll while heading to a Main Quest location (no way to avoid it) and as hard as I tried to killed it, I kept dying. Had to drop the difficulty to do it.
At that point, my archery still has no perks, therefore, not doing a lot of damage

I even have the Lord Stone Blessing (+50 armor & 25% Magic resistance).

Dragons are more challenging too.

But in the end, I feel like more challenging = more fun

But regarding you not Sneaking, Not sure why you should limit yourself to Light Armor, besides the fact you feel like being like Mister Curly Hair in Game of Thrones (Bald in the book :P)

I am a dual wield Redguard Barbarian(Archery, Sneak, Light armor, One hand dual wield, alchemy, and some block for use in tough fights). I use archery to thin herds then adrenaline rush in and berserk things to death. I find that so far, at level 10 and one handers at level 39 and playing on MASTER...things are easy so far. Two handers hurt like hell, and I have yet to fight anything tough, but from what it sounds like is that it will be fun with how tough it will be. I hope it works out that way because so far the Dreugh boss in bleak barrow next to riverwood was a cake walk.

Does it get harder anyone? I really really hope so, I love a GOOD challenge (also I will not be power leveling smith nor will I be touching enchantment...no game breakers for me).

The "quick, agile and vicious" strategy is certainly viable even in masters

I'm an enchanter foremost so I do have strong weapon buffs, but I lack combat skills/smithing in pairred weapons or armour, so I'd have thought extensive combat training would balance the equation. With light armour/dual wielding the key is to be fast, vicious and destroy your enemy utterly. And if you don't immediatly destroy them, back off and wait for another opening

not on master difficulty, unless you count viability as carrying half weight capacity in pots
even if you sneak it wont be very viable because any group larger than 2 mobs will give you issues.

you wont make it in master either as without smithing your protection AND damage will be VERY low andd with so many skills invested your skills will also be very low

Very viable on master, smithing is pretty much a necessity tho. but the armor cap is quite easy to hit with hihger light armor and smithing skill.

Have fun, my duel wield lightarmor guy is my 3rd character. And I havent gone back yet iys so much fun.
