Dungeons a little underwhelming?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 11:30 pm

Is it just me or don't the dungeons feel as epic as they did in Daggerfall-Oblivion, I feel they're just lacking that special something. I mean they look great, but they don't feel anywhere near as epic to me :(

You haven't done many, have you? Just took me two hours to get through ONE. EPIC, indeed and amazingly created. I was stunned! They are definitely all unique, from what's I've seen. I've probably cleared about 20 so far.

I just feel something's not right, they don't feel as big as they did before.

I've done over 50, I bet my character could sneak through said dungeon in under half an hour, withoit a single scratch :P

We are not playing the same game.

Even the 3rd or 4th dungeon in this game, and im not talking main story line but side story lines, will have you enter dungeons that take a good hour to go through.

You can sneak through some of the larger raid instanes in wow, that take around 4 to 6 hours to complete, is roughly 20 minutes.
So your statement although it holds true, is very flawed.

I can run 3 km in 3 minutes. But walking the distance in a place full of traps and enemies will definately take me longer.

I probly didn't phrase it right, most of the dungeons and caves I've encountered are minuscule in comparison to the majority of Oblivions dungeons, although they are mostly unique and such they are nowhere near as big as they were.

Imho I find the dungeons one of the best parts of the game, they are really epic :)

Yesterday I entered a cave expecting some bandits and easy loot but to my surprise Falmer had somehow broken into the cave from their underground Dwemer city killing all the bandits.

So in stead of some good ol' bandit stompin' in a cave I was sneaking through some old Dwemer city filled with Falmer. By the time I realised I was in over my head I couldn't get back out the way I came so I had to fight through quite a lot of strong opponents to get back out using every trick in the book.

It's a thrill to sneak around a group of Falmer that is looking around for you cause you just shot an arrow in one of 'em, especially because you just know that, if they find you, you don't stand a chance :)

It may not sound as epic but when I was playing yesterday I was like "[censored] just got serious" and repositioned myself in my chair. Think we all know what that means :)

Also:

I can run 3 km in 3 minutes.

When do you run in the Olympics? :P

The dungeons are perfect this time around. Enough variety and types to keep things fresh, variable durations of progression, puzzles, traps, and unique stories behind them.

If that wasn't enough, the level design is great. Having barred doors that actually have bars on the other side (that lead to a swifter exit than retracing the entire path prior), secret notches or paths to explore, etc.

The only problem I see with dungeons are that they dont seem to respawn. Ive had this [CLEARED] thing next to the dungeon names on my map for a month of ingame time. I went back and found the same corpses from last time. There were no new foes or loot.

This guy is insane. One dungeon in skyrim beats every dungeon in Oblivion. Im actually addicted to dungeons because they are so diverse and look amazing!

"Oblivion", "dungeon" and "special something" don't belong in the same sentence unless that sentence also contains the word "lack".

Every dungeon I've explored in Skyrim so far has been pretty cool. Mines look like mines, forts look like forts, but so far there's been something to differentiate them from each other.

I Agree BUT!?!?!

I love the new dungeons, they still however leave a sour copy and paste feel to some of the same puzzles they keep using like the jeweled claw doors WTF!?!? Also I have ran into more chests with no locks on them then ones I have to pick.

The dungeons are one of my favorite things about this game, although, some are better than others, one vampire lair in particular was a big disappointment. But on the whole, they are amazing, dark, atmospheric, creepy and varied. The last three nights have been spent with the lights off, the sound up, a big glass of wine and creeping around the dungeons, love it!

Been playing for around 40 hours,I think I have cleared around 20 and so far all of them have been unique and only about 5 of those were of the shorter/smaller variety...and this is not Mq just a few side quests & miscellaneous ones...so far all they have been better than expected.

the dungeons have def. impressed me and I have not even touched the main quest missions after meeting the greybeards and only mostly companion quest-line .I imagine the best ones are still to come :mohawk:

for those who have played the mq and did some of the other guilds (without SPOLERS/details please!) just let me know how it was like dungeon wise,do I have a lot of awesome content/unique items/quests ahead of me? ( i have only joined the companions and I am believe I am almost towards the end) thanks!

Those freaky dwarven spiders... eww!

OP: I'm satisfied to dungeons that Skyrim has. Epic is the only word I can describe them.

I think it's a bit weird people confuse how long it takes to get through a dungeon with its actual quality. Not saying the dungeons are bad, though, but still ...

"Hm, I feel like the dungeons lack the special something."

"Not true, it took me two hours to get through one of them!"

WTH?

I think the dungeons are okay so far, but every single one I've been to was either jsut one single room or a looong, winding tunnel. They look great, though, but that's due to the graphics, I guess.
