I was out of town when Skyrim came, and GF installed it on her laptop. Had she told me I would have adviced her not to. Now the product key is bound to her, and I can't find options in her Steam to disable the product key. Contacting Steam is the only option? Like when buying a used copy and re-ativating the key to new user?

You can log into Steam using her settings on your computer, since Steam lets you play the game from any computer. That may not be the answer you are looking for, but it will let you play on another computer at least.

I figured that out but would rather like completely moving the game in my name. After all, it's me who's TES fan in the house.

But seems like the fastest way to start playing, and you guys are way ahead of me...

You can log into Steam with her account on your computer, install it, activate it while online (while she's offline on her comp) then login to offline mode on Steam on your PC and you'll be able to play, no problems. When updates arise, just login to online mode to get them.

You're likely not going to be able to switch the game to your name. But then again, Steam seems to be a lot more understanding and helpful than, say, Microsoft.

I'm sure I can, by sending Valve ticket and a photo of the product key and explaining the situation. But I won't do it right now. Right now the game's installing.
