Dwarven Smithing

I don't know if this topic has been done before, and I wasn't going to slog through the 20 pages that came up in the search. Does anyone else think that characters shouldn't be able to smith Dwarven weapons and armor? I mean all other types of weapons and armor belong to races that still exist and could be widely known and taught. The Dwemer are all but extinct, so the secrets to their smithing techniques should be lost. You should only be able to find completed weapons and armor. Don't get me wrong....I like finding scrap metal to make ingots as they can net you a lot of gold from the stuff you smith, but it would make more sense if the smithing techniques were lost to the ages. Thoughts?

Hmm.. Making ingots from the scrap metal isn't that weird at al,, but you're right, it's strange that we can smith it.

I think it's funny that it's just a step above steel.

This has always bothered me. Maybe if there was an NPC or related quest that would allow you to unlock the ability with some actual Lore relating to it. Luckily, I don't bother with smithing or alchemy in Skyrim. One day I probably will but for now, potions are for drinking and armour is for wearing. I do occassionally make something if I need to craft it from a mod, but that's it.
