Elder scrolls not droppable - quest items - and weight 20 ea

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:57 pm

I finished the Vampire quest line in Dawnguard. But I noticed that I was noticably carrying too much weight. I discovered the biggest factor is the three Elder Scrolls - at 20 pounds each. However, it's impossble to drop them, sell them, put them in a container, or transfer them to a follower, as they are marked as quest items. However, the best I can tell, I no longer have any quest that requires them (as the vampire quest line is complete). Even the College librarian won't buy the scrolls.

Am I really stuck carrying 60 pounds of useless weight for the rest of the game?

Thanks

Spoiler

The Moth Priest will take them from you if you talk to him. And if he isn't dead. I finished the Dawnguard side so I don't know if that still is an option for you as a vampire. And I don't think you can give the dragon one to him either.

Thanks.
Spoiler
I'll try talking to the Moth Priest. Last time I pvssyd with him, he was sleeping in a casket in the castle. So he should still be around (though finding him without a quest marker may be tricky.)

This topic has popped up at least 30 times in the past week, it makes me wonder if you guys actually look at your carry weights to see if you have an extra 60 encumbrance or not.

Quest Items do not add to your encumbrance and therefore the scrolls aren't adding 60 weight to your character, so even if you cannot rid yourself of the scrolls, they aren't hindering you whatsoever.

Hope I was of some help.

Not only do they not weigh anything, but this thread is spoiler-heavy! I'm over-encumbered with unwanted information!

When I tell Skyrim to sort all items by weight, the Scrolls sort as the second or third heaviest items that I'm carrying. Of course, it's hard to tell if they are affecting my weight carried as I cannot drop them to see the change. As I am roughly 60-80 pounds more encumbered than usual, the scrolls seemed the reasonable culprit.

I also have two Staves of Charming that I picked up from a dungeon chest that are marked as quest items (even though no quest resulted from picking them up), not droppable and do encumber me 8 pounds each. Fortunately, for those, I discovered that I can mount them on a wall to get rid of the weight.

I'll also check to see how many potions have accumulated. It's amazing how much weight ends up as potions after a while.

To check and see if the elder scrolls are infact adding weight, put down everything that you can and check your weight then. if they are weightless then when you put down all but your quest items your weight should be zero.
