To me baldur's gate and Elder scrolls doesn't even compare... in every single aspect Elder scrolls is far far superior.
Considering what the elder scrolls online is going to be anyway it would be in a grim position to challenge a baldur's gate mmo...
Bioware should do something stupid like making a wow clone or basing the game on the failure that is D&D 4th edition to do as bad as TES:O

Agreed. Elder Scrolls is far superior but ESO is going to die hard.

DAoC came out in 2001, 11 years ago, and still hasn't gone F2P. Granted, it was killed by an expansion that tried to move it to a PvE game (oops), but for some reason, some of these carebears just don't understand what keeps a PvP-focused MMO going strong and enjoyable for years....

Anyways, there is a D&D MMO coming out called Neverwinter, but it's F2P, and only has 5 classes to choose from. Fail. I think a Baldur's Gate MMO would be cool tho, no one has yet to make a decent D&D MMO, I'd love to see Matt Firor team up with Wizards of the Coast and make one of those next.

It actually has a ton of classes, all hybrids. I played Neverwinter at E3 and it was a lot of fun. Combat was responsive and engaging, unlike ESO. It also has a thing where players can create content modules (within reason) which is pretty innovative.

But yes, a PvP MMO that toes the line too much will never be able to please both sides. ESO will be yet another example of this. I wish ESO was an FFA full-loot MMO personally. Once playing those its hard to go back to the carebear MMOs and have any real fun.

Maybe I'll check out Neverwinter then, but only to hold me over for ESO.

I believe that a game can have a great PvE and PvP model, and the 3-faction RvR style is the best way to accomplish that. DAoC had both really great PvE AND really great PvP up until Trials Of Atlantis. The problem comes when you have end-game PvE content have TOO much of an effect on PvP (such as with Master Levels). Once everyone hits level cap, the differences in abilities for each character should be minimal, and PvE should just be used for fun, and to get new loot, not to actually have an affect on the characters abilities, or on PvP in general.

Yup. Trials of Atlantis destroyed balance in DAoCs RvR. Suddenly PvPera had to sink weeks into completing ridiculously long epic PvE raids to hopefully get an artifact item. Then they had to level up the artifact to 10 by grinding certain mob types. Also, you leveled up master levels by completing these PvE raids, and they gave you overpowered abilities in PvP It was a total time sink and it ruined the game.

Ah so it wasnt just me driven out of DAOC by ToA.

DAOC was still a great and groundbreaking game though even with ToA. I therefore look forward to the game. I also look forward to Neverwinter, GW2, TSW, and pretty much everything else heading my way.

I certainly feel its better to be positive towards the development of these games. Some will be better than others but until you play you cannot say.

Oh good HEAVENS no. It's party-based, strategic, much slower paced, no random generation of locations... it's pretty much a straight adaptation of the 2nd Edition AD&D rules into a computer game, with the turns being resolved in a real-time manner. It's basically the game series that first set the stage for all of BioWare's later RPGs.

As long as you add "because then we already have your money" I'm good with it.

I doubt that's the case, they said they want to "give people the Premium experience" AND "we designed the game to keep people's attention long term"... That says to me subscription fees, which count on long term gamers, not 1-time buyers.

Bioware's used up their credit with me for MMOs with TOR. I doubt I'd play another of theirs.

I assume you're talking about Free to Play business models, where the player pays for the software and then no monthly sub?

No, I was saying ESO WILL have sub fees, which is a good thing, because if I'm playing a video game for over 100 hours a month, I'm willing to pay an extra $15 to get that Premium experience.

Are you kidding me? Bioware dropped the ball like 10x too many times and look what they've became EA's [censored]. Bioware's future is sci-fi/future, probably blend with BF3 group, IMHO.

You are comparing a franchise that was popular on PC in the 90s with a multiplatform juggernaut that is easily the most popular western RPG to date. There is no comparison. TES easily is one of the biggest video game franchies in the industry and would beat many MMOs based off the IP alone, with the exception of Star Wars. But longterm subscriptions really aren't based on the IP? Are they? What will make or break this game will ultimately be the RvR, the PvE, the world, and the social features that bring it all together.

I think ES havent yet stolen people's heart but it definitely could, its just how Bethesda plays this. Skyrim was more of the same after all, kinda safe bet.

I loved the Baldurs Gate series but I will never buy another Bioware game. The days of Baldurs Gate are gone along with the people that made Bioware what they are. Dragons Age: Origins saw the return of what made Baldurs Gate good, minus the AD&D, then they ruined it with DA2.

Elder Scrolls on the other hand has improved like a fine wine. Sure some favorite things have been sacrificed over the years but the heart of TES is still alive. Compared to BG, TES will win hands down from me
