Elemental Protection perk not working

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 3:42 am

I have the elemental protection perk on my Nord warrior. So I thought I would have 100% frost protection while blocking, but I don't. I fought this frost dragon and when I'm blocking I get the same amount of damage as when I'm not blocking. I shouldn't be getting any damage, I think.

So yeah, the perk isn't working for me. At least, not against dragons. Does anyone else have this problem?

As far as I know the max defense is 85% mitigation for any damage type.

100% resist is not longer possible in skyrim. say hello to the hardcap of 85% thats the reason you still took damage. the perk is working.

But I got the same amount of damage when I blocked as when I didn't block. When I don't block I have 50% and when I do I should have 85%, right?

I found the same thing with my first character.
Same deal.... Nord, expected to be immune once I upgrade to Elemental Protection.

I happened to level during a fight with a dragon, so I got to test it with and without. I seemed to still take the EXACT SAME damage, either way.
I figured there was a resist hardcap, but after reloading a bunch of times I really didn't see a difference in the damage the dragon was doing with it's frost breath.

Something to look into?

Yes. It seems to be bugged against dragons .

If the only examples people are presenting are Nord frost resist examples then no one is doing the math correctly.

I cannot test it yet, but magic resist is different from elemental resist.

100 magic resist should negate all damage,

50 percent magic resist and 50 percent frost resist would NOT stop all frost damage it would work like this:

You are hit by a frost spell doing 100 damage. First it hits your magic resist (50 percent) so 50 raw damage still comes through. Then it would hit the frost resist of a nord (50 percent again) so 25 damage would get through that.

Same for a shields elemental resist.

I am not sure if dragon breath is accounted under general magic attacks for any purposes.

This sounds like when you dont block you have 85% elemental resistance and when you do you have 100%, as stated above the damage resistance is capped at 85% so the extra 15%+ you get from blocking is ignored anyway.

well perhaps not
dragons use shouts which is different from magicka
not sure it was intended but it could be justified

Could this post be correct about it not being intended to resist dragon shouts? If so, it's waste of a perk to me. I can easily handle mages and other magicka users without this perk.
