EmoScreamo

No, not My Chemical Romance or whatever gets associated with the emo tag right now. I'm talking about bands playing the old school style of emo originating in the 80's and especially evolving throughout the 90's. I absolutely adore this stuff but it's always difficult to find people that are into it due to misconceptions around the genre thanks to the media tagging anything with harsh vocals as "screamo". This http://www.fourfa.com/is a great resource when it comes to explaining what emo is along with giving recommendations on a lot of seminal bands that shaped the genre.

Anyway, I've been listening to a lot of 90's French bands like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwvvSzScOyw&feature=relmfuand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOVkXI1Caic&feature=relmfu. Seems like the French really had a thing for injecting catchy and hard-hitting melodies into their brand of emo.

So let's talk about emo, whether it's the twinklyness of American Football or the grindy intensity of Orchid.

The only thing I've ever 'liked' in this genre is Me Without You, and only for 'nostalgic' reasons.

IWHACIYY is great. I hope the discography LP gets repressed some time. I missed it the first time around and have been kicking myself for it since. Listening to a Damezumari track now. Cool prog-like elements to it. Thanks for the rec.
