Enchanting Bug (reported, but no feedback)

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 3:22 am

ok, i originally posted this in the "report bug list v2.0" thread or whatever, but haven't gotten a response.

anyway, when i go to enchant an item, i use an enchanting potion, enchant the item, then suddenly, my enchanting skill drops to zero. i was previously level 95 and my alchemy is at 89. i've spent a great deal of time leveling those two skills up specifically. now, i was lucky to notice right away, and saved just before enchanting, but it doesn't matter what i do, after i enchant something my skill drops to zero (but still claims i'm lvl 95 enchanter).

has this happened to anyone else? i don't see it in the bug list, and i'm starting to feel like i should stop playing, because i've literally spent hours on end grinding potions, daggers, and enchanting those daggers. what's the point if my skills are just going to be randomly reset? someone please respond, and tell me if this has happened before and corrects itself over time, or if i'm only going to be able to enchant one last item before being reset for the rest of the game.

I think thats something they did to break people from overcycling Alchemy/Enchanting. How high is your bonus on that potion?

Im doing an alchemy grind Ill see if I can create a Fortify Enchanting and try to replicate the issue, might be a side effect of breaking the Alchemy/Enchanting Exploit tbh

i'm using an alchemy ring i enchanted that gives potions either a 29 or 39% bonus, and i'm also using one of the masks that add's 20% alchemy bonus when creating potions. either way, there should, at the very least, be a cap on how much bonus points carry over to the actual enchantment, not a provision that resets you back to freaking ZERO! that's bullcrap! what happened to "open ended" game play? "oh, you can play skyrim however you want." really? not with whatever it is you're talking about in place. if that's true, i'm gonna be super pissed, cause i didn't get the memo. plus, i'm having to deal with crappy textures on top of all this!

its because people exploited the way Alchemy/Enchanting can be, defeats the purpose of difficulty levels if you can just get the gear that makes you take like no damage

what difference does that make? it's a single player game, you're not cheating anyone. so am i to assume that now i just throw all the work i put in out the window?

no, it doesn't matter if i use a potion or not, an archery enchantment on a gold diamond neckless, for example, gives 3 bonus points....that's it, when before i was upwards in the mid 40's.

DrunkLastKnight: can you show me a post where Bethesda has said the game will reset your stats if you grind certain perks? because i don't believe they would do such a thing. and if they would, it should be *pinned* for public knowledge, not show up as some surprise after you've already spent days on end doing it.

nothing confirmed by beth but other users have noted a negative for over shooting 100 in a skill (perk bonuses dont apply to the overflow amount afaik)

My enchanting is at 100 and I have perked all enchanting perks, I can max out bonuses just fine. I will test and see when it breaks because I think you need to hit a certain amount before it over flows to the negative

EDIT: In my testing Ive gotten in smithing an 80% bonus with 100 in smithing with no ill effects from upgrading so not all skills will overflow to the negative the only ones Ive heard of is alchemy and enchanting when it gets broken by someone.
