Enchantment Problem - Help!

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 8:18 am

Hello everyone,

My first time here, so apologies if this has already been raised.

I have a problem with enchanting with one of my characters and it's not making any sense. I will explain: I am trying to get to the point where I can create the better enchants and I am for now just levelling things up. One of my characters has 100 Smithing and 100 Enchant, now working on Alchemy. Both skills have all correct upgrades for what I need to do. I can for example create Daedric Bow with Fire Damage (initial 46 points) and Frost Damage (initial 46 points) and when combined it creates a Daedric bow that does 69 Damage for Fire/Frost each respectively. That is fine, later on when Alchemy is 100% I can get to work on making what I really need.

My other character however does not work in the same way as above: Again Both Enchant and Smithing are at 100% (and all upgraded equal to the above character), but when I try to make the Daedric bow as above I get a different result and I don't know why: Daedric bow results with Fire Damage (initial 31 points) and Frost Damage (initial 31 points), no combined effect and a resulting 31 points damage for each Fire and Frost respectively when completed.

I am using the same type and power of soul gem for each character, all stats for the skills are the same and neither character at this time has any bonuses to any apparel or other skills that would effect this whatsoever.

Please can someone help and advise me what is going on?

Many thanks,

Frustrated!

Perks? I believe destruction perks also add into elemental damage enchantments

OK, thanks, I will check that out - the first character does have a higher destruction skill 85, whereas I believe the second one (with the problem) has about 63 points - that would certainly make sense! lol

Thank you haleand, I had a few points to experiment with and and put up Augmented Flames (Destruction) on second character and fire enchantment damage went up to 38 points. Not worked out the combined damage effect yet at the end, but hopefully that will also be something to do with upgrading the Destruction skill as well? :)

The Destruction skill will affect how many charges you use, NOT the actual damage of a weapon enchant. What DOES affect damage of weapon enchants: Destruction perks (like Augmented Flames), Potions (Fortify Destruction), Enchanting perks (Fire Enchanter, for example). Note that the Enchanting perks only work upon item creation, but getting a destruction perk or potion effect after the fact will raise weapon damage.
