Ending a little lackluster?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:02 am

Been pretty busy so had to stay away from the game for a bit. I know it's open world and all but did anyone else find the ending a little weak? Got rid of the big bad dragon, yay me, but there's no sense of accomplishment in the world. Could have just cleared another dungeon.

Not sure what I'm expecting, of course. No more snow? Dancing girls following me everywhere singing my praises? No idea. It just felt flat.

Yeah. That's kind of the feel I have. I'm going through the imperial missions now which seem a bit odd given that I took out the evil dragon of doom.

The problem with a story that you can do in any order is that things have to be kept as open as possible to not provide story clashes. I could have any companion in the game with me at any point.

It's really hard to make things open, generic and meaningful.

I wonder if the lack of ending is a part of the whole dlc thing where there will feel like more of an ending with that. Or if it will feel like more of a tease with no resolution.

I liked it. One thing... I wish they didn't give you so much help in the end.

How awful would you like the final fight to be?

I beat the dragon quickly and went back to skyrim and died jumping down the mountainside. Took me way too long to defeat the dragon a second time. Stupid me, I assumed going back to skyrim would trigger an autosave.

I haven't gotten that far yet, I can't voice my opinion. Though I can say that I am in no rush either. I am playing at a pace that seems suitable to my needs and expectations that the game is doing a great job providing me with. I was unsure wether I would ever start the main quest on this character. If I am ready to accept the great responsibilty of saving the world from the world-eater, then I will have to prepare for it.

I am unsure what I will do after completing the theives guild, maybe start this journey or side with the Imperials as a spy and such. I will have no part of the "Stormcrackers" (Culveyhouse calls them this).

Time will tell.

The whole entire main quest past Blackreach seemed extremely rushed and phoned in to me. They even copy+pasted Alduin from the mountain encounter to the final battle, where he doesn't get any stronger and you have more help.

The ending to Morrowind's main questline was much better than Skyrim's I'd say. It actually felt climactic.

Do any games have good endings these days? The griping over mass effect is epic.

I would never consider the ending terrible just because Oblivion's wasn't that great, either. It had a better battle at the end in Oblivion, but either way, it was pretty goofy. Skyrim's was good in that it reminded me of the ending of the first Pokemon movie, which isn't a good movie but I love Pokemon so yeah. I don't like to hold things up with nostalgia, but it's always nice when an ending reminds me of something from Pokemon. Now if only Bethesda would try finding a way to make the American Digimon movie's ending make sense(that movie was actually three movies smashed in one sandwich... Needless to say, that was some weird stuff once you find that out.).

Ah. Gotta love when a video game makes you remember some movie from your childhood. Maybe... Oh right, this is the no spoilers area. Sorry.

About the comment of games not having good endings these days. Red Dead Redemption had a good one. It was a bit hard to swallow for me because I was feeling like I was so close to giving the character a new life, and then... Yeah, just let me replace a spoiler tag with the death of Mufasa from the Lion King. It means no worries until daddy dies.

"You no longer bear the burden of prophecy.
You have achieved your destiny.
You are free.
The doomed Dwemer's folly, Lord Dagoth's temptation,
the Tribunal's seduction, the god's heart freed,
the prophecy fulfilled.
All fates sealed and sins redeemed.
If you have pity, mourn the loss, but let the weeping cease.
The Blight is gone, and the sun's golden honey gilds the land.
Hail savior, Hortator, and Nerevarine.
Your people look to you for protection.
Monster and villains great and small still threaten the people of Vvardenfell.
Enemies and evils abound, yet indomitable will might rid Morrowind of all its ills.
For you, our thanks and blessings; our gift and token given.
Come; take this thing from the hand of god.

So much better.
