Enemy AI reaction to disarmament ruined my boss fight.

Post » Thu Nov 01, 2012 11:20 pm

When I shield bash an enemy, instead of trying to get their weapon back, they just stand there like an idiot with karate claws. All I have to do to win a fight against a Deathlord is disarm him, and then take my time swinging away with an iron dagger if I wanted to while he just stands there. It has completely killed my game. I was having so much fun with my sword n board character who is FINALLY ready to start Dawnguard (waited till level 30) and now I feel like I have to start another character all over again. This really svcks.

EDIT: before you tell me to just not shield bash, it is the center of this character's build. I purposely built him so that his shield would be his life. Without it, he is screwed.

Wait. If using disarm breaks your game, you could always just stop using it...

He can't just stop using shield bash. That's a pretty major mechanic with sword and board, you know

Why not load a save from before you took the perk?

Okay, the developers must have overlooked this. How about if you keep shield bashing, but if they disarm you then you can't pick up the weapon you dropped? In fact, back to my first statement - why include a shield bash disarm if the enemy is just going to stand there? Find a mod to fix this AI or else disarm your weapon and fistfight them, that is if they will even fight back.

Defantly weird... in Oblivion/Fallout 3/NV, if an enemy was disarmed, they'd search for a new weapon nearby, or run if they couldn't find any.

Are you talking about fighting NPCs or Monsters? Both?

He can easily stop POWER shield bashing,as that is how you disarm. A normal one works fine.

The enemy does not just stand there. A dIsarmed draugr will pick up a weapon if you give him a chance. But if you keep bashing him or attacking him, the draugr doesn't have the chance.

This solves your problem.
I'd assume finding a weapon while being slashed at with a sword is rather difficult.

Ta-da. A simple way to stop the disarm thing from happening.
... Or you could give enemies a chance to pick up their weapon. Disregard this, I didn't see your post.

Actually, he did just stand there. I stepped back and waited. At first, I did it just to heal myself bracing for the next storm, but he just stood there, and stood there. It is some kind of bug. Enemies never used to do that.

Why do you care? The point of disarming them is to kill them without them hitting you back. Mission accomplished. If you dont want that, then

No. A sword and board character should be able to power bash. Maybe archers should stop using arrows better than iron, or mages shouldn't use fire spells.

Does it happen all the time? If it only happened a couple times, their AI probably couldn't detect the weapon where it fell. Navmesh / path detection isn't perfect and the weapon might have fallen somewhere he couldn't reach it, even if it was in the middle of the room. (Especially likely if there were a lot of unmovable static entities.)
