[WIP] Enhanced Horse Skins - Shogun

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 1:24 pm

Hello everyone,

I really didn't like the resolution of the horse textures so I decided to begin replacing horse textures with higher resolution clarity.

Some on my to do list include white/black variation horses and horses with unique patterns and war paint. Saddles will be done too in the future.

Here's a work in progress before/after shot. Thanks!

Thank you for the endorsemants! It motivates me to continue supporting and working on the Enhanced Horse Skins mod!

(THIS IS A TEXTURE MOD)

This mod replaces 5 main horses (4 rideable) with improved textures and 2 new horse skins.
The mod also enhances the default saddle to a higher resolution saddle.

I basically just scaled up the textures from 512 to 1024 and completed a paint over to reduce artifacting from increased resolution.
I also increased normal map texture size as well as smoothing it out.

Once Creation Kit arrives I will be able to do a proper higher resolution bake, so I don't have to rely on the base textures provided in game.

1. Carriage Horse Texture Improved
2. Windhelm - Bay Horse Improved
3. Whiterun - Black Horse Improved
4. Riften - Dapple Grey Replaced by DUN Horse
5. Markarth - Pinto Improved
6. Solitude - Palomino Horse replaced by new White Horse

Here are the file listings.
Feel free to switch horses from stable to stable if you want

Horse01.dds = Carriage Horse
Horse02.dds = White
Horse03.dds = Dun
Horse04.dds = Black
Horse05.dds = Pinto

Hmm so the black horse is now completely gone with your mod?

Great! I like the dun and dappled horses, and the white horse looks fantastic too! Downloaded and enjoying!

Looks much better :D

I don't even use horses, but I did notice their very poor textures. Surprised that you haven't received more replies. These are better than slof's, IMO.

Anyway, I'll be on the look out for any updates.

Nice work :)

But could you please compress your textures (DXT3 or DXT5) ?
No need for 1024x1024 .dds files to be 5.3MB, with compression they are 1.3MB

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Version 02 is now available for download. This includes compressed textures DXT5(required for alphas) so the texture memory is much smaller.

I also restored the black horse, and improved on it. Mainly brightening up the overall texture, and adding the white spot variation.

v03 has been released.

It restores an improved all black horse to the Whiterun Stables, and all the original horses as optional downloads.

Enhanced Shadowmere has been updated as well. Cheers, enjoy.
