Eorlund randomly died on me. Has this happened to anyone els : V

So i was waiting at the skyforge for my fave blacksmith (only one that can train me) and after days of waiting in all hours of the day i give up. I go to the blacksmith at the entrance of Whiterun, and instead of her usual statement she says "I dont claim to be the best blacksmith, that title went to Eorlund when he was alive"! I never showed any aggression to Mr. Gray Mane and there was never a dragon attack so are there any ideas about how this happened?

Out of curiosity did you do the companion quest line? If so than

go in jovaskr and see if skjor is back from the dead. Someone said their eorlund died and skjor came back to life in another thread.

yes i did complete companion quest line (well ive only gotten one of the totems) but ill check that out

Once I turned into a werewolf to kill that incredibly annoying Talos preacher in Whiterun without getting a bounty. It worked, but Whiterun then became a battlezone, apparently between the Companions and everyone else. Among the dead, there was Eorlund's body, face down in the dust. I quickly backpedaled to the save I made before attempting this.

@OP, I've never had him die on me o.O that kinda svcks, especially if his hidden treasure chest doesn't refill over time XD

I've heard about someone else where Eorlund randomly died, and I believe people confirmed he could spontaneously die. On the other hand either Sven or Faendal can also die 'off-screen', so why not other npcs? :smile:

Live and death does seem a bit out of whack in skyrim. Some of the people come back from the dead, some die without provocation and some even die and comeback as multiple people.

I started a thread a while back in the Spoilers section. Yes, this can happen, altough not often.

For me it happened right after you become harbinjer. I didn't go see him for a while (if you go see him he tells you the forge has new powers and you can forge new weapons and armor) and when I finally went much later he was nowhere to be found and so I never could forge those weapons, and neither can you buy Wolf Armor or Skyforge weapons.

I went to the Hall of the Dead in Whiterun and if you search

you can actually find an urn with his name on it. You can open it and his personal valuables are there. I didn't take anything but there should be a Skyrforge Steel sword if you absolutely need it. It was marked red so it is considerend stealing if it matters to you.

Pretty much the only time I was actually touched by a NPC's death. Good thing I had an extra set of Wolf armor for enchantment ;-)

Some characters even react to his death (I forgot about that). Go talk to Adriana and Eorlund's wife, they have new dialogue.

Have you had any fights in the city? If you do the companion quest line, and then get in a fight in the city they will help you. One of those battle born guys told me he should "bash my face in for what I'd done" one time too many, so I shouted him to oblivion and got in a fight with the guards. Suddenly Eorlund came to my rescue but died in the attempt. Killed all the guards as revenge, then quickly loaded the last save and just stared at the battle born with hatred instead..

well while i was joining the companions there was a huge fight going on... because i was a level four vampire :blink:

but he survived that
