Here a Christmas gift - a nice new map to carry around!

See it in action:

Description
==============
Installs an immersive map that can be equipped like a shield, block to bring the map up to look at it better. Lowers when running. Craftable at the tanning rack for 1 leather and 1 quill.

This is 3rd-person safe and is not visible when 'sheathed'.

This is my continuation of work started by kellpossible
We will be working together to realise his awesome ideas - but I am making this a separate release for those that want a less-complex mod.

Really nice idea. Thanks

[edit] be nice if there was a way to mark the players location.

Why not use the 'open elder scroll' animation for something similar, instead of shield block?

I laughed when I saw it but it's actually an interesting idea. I'll download it to see how it works. Do you think custom map textures (higher res ones) would help? Or did you make your own texture?

This uses your 'battlemap' texture, Whatever you see in Dragonsreach is what you'll get on here. So you can use any of the replaces for that!

Great idea! Thanks a lot! I actually have been waiting for something like this!

What are you talking about? I am not far in the game, and haven't encountered anything like this yet. Do you say, there is an animation for the character to open a scroll? If yes, this would be a very great idea for the map mod of the OP.

My guess is that the whole thing is one single animation, so it would only work if you want to go insane the moment you so much as glance at the map.

The next stage of the equipable map project is to do the treasure maps - that really would be handy for comparing the environment to the picture!

Great mod , i made a Req thread for this last week, as well as a "3d" compass to look at in real time also instead of the on screen version, this is looking great so far. Still interested in the 'scroll " animation , when the CK comes out i don't see any issue in making it work for this mod. (and would be worlds better)

Thank you for the Map !

This is now updated with a stable version 3.5 and a version merged with kellpossible's work (3.5_merged).

If you already use EquipableMap_2-0 or older then get the merged one, otherwise use EquipableSkyrimMap_3-5.

Hope y'all like it!

This is how maps should be handled in next-gen 1st person RPGs. Good job. But the writer (and thus grammar nazi) in me has to point out that it's spelled "equippable " :P

I love the idea of a 3d compass to use with a map, a' la Arma series (and land-navigation in the army before GPS and after GPS batteries run out)
Awesome idea creating the map, I'll be sure to try it out as soon as I'm not so far from Skyrim.

And the peace and friendship nazi in me would like to point out that both are acceptable spellings. ;)

DL'ing now. :D

I'm using the merged version and kellpossible's map looks like a garbled sheet of artifacts.

I haven't tried to craft your map yet.

@baratheonfury I totally agree with your spelling point... ... ... But then I am English ;)

@ThingyPerson kellpossible's one uses its own texture, whereas mine uses the battlemap. Perhaps it's failing to load the texture? Did you get a file installed in textures/kellpossible/map ?

wow, that would actually be very useful. the only problem i can think of is that the treasure chest doesnt spawn unless you find the physical map in game.

Yes, I do.

But I think I'll make my way to the nearest tanning rack anyway because mapdaggers aren't my style : P

@amethyst I am intending to require the player to have found the treasure map first, before being able to equip it. This will either replace the object with an equippable one, or possibly use the map as an ingredient...

@ThingyPerson enjoy the shield version!

I've now included equip-able treasure maps...

You need to have already found the 'real' treasure map (I-X); now, take it with you to a tanning rack - then make yourself a copy onto a new piece of leather...

Enjoy!

I uploaded the wrong files last night, so anyone who downloaded 4.0 should go get 4.01 instead!
I have also renamed the textures as they gave away too much information!

Hope you all like the new treasure maps

They are programmed as 'shields' - so you can block or bash - but they have a very low rating, so it won't do much!

But it's still fun!
