ESO Art Style

Post » Fri May 31, 2013 6:23 am

Wanted to shout out some praise to the artists for ESO... I feel the in-game art work is superb. I also wanted especially thank the person(s) behind the wallpaper art. I enjoy collecting wallpapers from all the games I play and ESO has some of the best.

I have not made my mind up on which faction I will join... but the AD wallpaper has me leaning toward choosing them. The art style used is reminiscent of games/fantasy of days past - I love it... http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/media/wallpapers/425

I'm in no way an art person, but I like anything that makes me feel something. Guys like Keith Parkinson and Frank Frazetta provided many of my early memories of how an RPG should look. The style of painterly work shown in the ESO wallpapers makes me fell very nostalgic of old school RPG's.

KUDOS! to the ESO art team... and keep it coming!

The old Parkinson EQ poster is what it puts me in the mind of... http://www.keithparkinson.com/images/eq.jpg

I stared at that picture so many times and thought of all the adventures that awaited.

It's easy to get wrapped up in all the rules and mechanics behind the game... just wanted to remind myself how much I enjoy the look and feel of a good RPG and fantasy art as a whole.

(I also like good music in my RPG.. I thought the music for Beowulf would work for any fantasy MMO - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXQVKx0IKN4&list=UU33GXmXeOv_9i0PU9g6PI4g)

That khajiit looks [censored] and overall the art style is way too cartoony for my taste

In order for you to see 200 Khajiits on your screen simultaneously, they have to look "cartoony". But I agree, ZOS made a fantastic job.

Character models are being improved as time goes on, can clearly see this by following the game and seeing the in game footage they release over time.

as far as "cartoony" goes well its obviously subjective but if you want to see real "cartoony" go check out WildStar an MMO due out this year, THAT is what cartoony is. ESO is no where near that.

I like the art style at the moment. you can't have a too detailed model in a MMO due to technology restrictions and connection problems. Then to have 200+ players all on screen with magic and weapons plus special effects something has to be toned down in the way things are drawn on the screen.

It looks more like a dark cartoon rather than a Warnner Bros one or Disney, something bordering along the lines of Demon City.

Keep up the good work ZOS.
