ESO Weapon and RNG

Post » Fri May 10, 2013 3:52 am

It seems like we're gonna see a different type of dropping system in ESO, which I really like.Same items will have different stats, something simillar to Diablo 3. Full article here: http://www.tesoelite.com/2013/05/eso-gear-progression-dynamically-generated-stats/

What I love about it, is that players will have now a reason to kill a boss again, even if they get the item needed. Inevitable, ppl will play in team more than what we are used to [:)]

What you guys think about this ?

Love it. Love everything about it.

Teamed up with all the things they plan crafting professions to do and it sounds like a great system.

Now not only will the boss fights have some variation in them (they'll change a little depending on how you cleared the dungeon last time), but now they won't drop static loot either. Never before have you had so much replayability in an MMO.

I'm thinking the same. I just hope to stick with all this and don't change it, since there's a while till the release....

I can dig this; as said in the article, it's like Christmas morning every time you loot an enemy!

Ahh.. RNG on gear, sounds fun.

I was thinking: RNG in every mechanic of the game? That gives me nightmares..

So, you are in a raid and the Sword of Light drops. Normally, whomever has not gotten the sword could now roll on it. But, now everyone will consistently get to roll on it every run, which gives you a lot less chance of ever getting it.

I don't know if i like this.

Bob: "Sword of Light dropped"

John: "Cool, I think I am the only one here who has not gotten it yet. Can I have it?"

Bob: "Well this Sword of Light has DPS of 17. Mine is only 16.9 so I'm going to roll for it too."

Phil: "Oh me too, my sword is only 16.7"

Sam: "oh me too"

:stare:

What game stops you from rolling on a piece of loot you already had anyway? I loved rolling on stuff I already had just to screw with people, even if I did intend on giving it to them once I won it.

Also, why so many sword users?

I'll answer your last question first. This is ESO, everyone can use a sword.

Now, if you noticed, I said raid. Raids are usually run by guilds. They usually have a system for rolling for stuff.

I'll comment on your second answer first. You didn't specify, but unless the guild is ass they won't be letting people raid on items they already have anyway, especially if the upgrade is as insignificant as .1 dps anyway. A smart guild will strengthen the weakest link, because you're only as strong, etc.

Yeah but why is EVERYONE using a sword? Are swords the best dps or something? Using every weapon no matter what you'd think that would solve alot of the problems on people wanting the same items, right? Again, a smart guild might try to distribute itself in a more...practical, manner.

Guild Leader: "okay, if you use swords, roll now"

/20 rolls

It will happen.

That's not a very good way of distributing loot in an organized guild man, just saying.

I have played with many guilds over the years. I agree, there are much stricter ways of handling loot, but some guilds are more open and trusting with loot rolls.

And some guilds just sell their loot to the highest bidder. Or ninja it to their top officers and screw the pawns over while the rooks, bishops and king profit.

I guess what I'm saying is I like this loot system, and its unique to an MMO. I look forward to it.

Either have it at whatever weapon they're currently wielding (if there's an efficient w way of checking), have personal/friendly groups where everyone knows each other, or... suffer? Idk.. I think there are plenty of ways to solve there being people being 500 different classes.

Yeah, OK, horror stories about rolling for loot can stop. Zeni has already said that every pleyer gets a separate loot table, so it isn't even going to come up.

The last thing I want is even more focus on killing the same boss over and over and over.

On the other hand, getting away from static loot is a bit of a plus. Call it 'mixed emotions' here.

This is why I miss being able to gank and loot.

Fair enough about the boss farming, but if ZOS holds true to their word atleast it won't be the exact same scripted fight everytime. And looting a boss and moving on is the fast track to blowing through content, and we can't have that.

Amen.

I read the first paragraph I found no connection with the authors sentiments and quit reading.

Seriously these are the kind of people I want to avoid so badly in any MMO. "Min-max your gear, whats left to play", oh how sad. Reminds me of the guy, who got everything in DDO, mostly with major help from a top tier guild, then started chains of drama topics on how he soloed everything on epic, and the game got too easy to enjoy so he rage-quits. Well, after he finished setting the mood on the forums :D.

Oh, and he was running with one of the most OP classes min.maxed at nearly godly levels -- on purpose. "The game was too easy, casual people ruined it for him" :D

//facepalm

I read a lot, and I find certain styles too guided. I stated my opinion, which is one opportunity forums offer. Also please stop insulting me because you disagree.

Yes, I see they have some bits on the weapon stats -- just read it fully -- I still don't agree with their premises and their conclusion.

You said yourself you read like the first paragraph or less, and you're coming up with an utterly uninformed opinion, as well as ranting about something that has nothing to do with what the dude was even talking about in the article in question.

And if you think that's an insult, maybe you need to reinforce your dermal plating, brochacho, because it was merely an observation on your incoherent reaction to something that didn't even relate to your rambling tirade.

The numbers of a weapon should depend on the level and on rarity but there shouldn't be different stats on the same weapon. The only thing that leads to is grint. I am very unlucky when it comes to stuff like that and I don't want to run a dungeon a 100 times before finally getting a weapon with max stats.

You don't always need max stats, getting a really good weapon is awesome, and when a better one drops you'll get that awesome feeling all over again. Guess this comes down to a personal preference thing though. I personally enjoy loot systems in ARPG's and the idea of an MMO doing that is pretty unique and might just be another tool in TESO's kit to seperate itself from the monster.

Getting all the loot and clearing a boss and having to do it on repeat because your friends still need loot from said boss bores the everloving hell out of me and knowing that there's a small chance I might get better stuff from that boss each time is good incentive to continue reclearing content. And make no mistake, clearing content over and over again is what PvE is all about.

True I personally hate stuff like that. The only RNG I except are crits.
This system takes something away from me. For me it's a great feeling when I finally get the weapon I was farming for so long, but if there are different versions of that weapon than it just doesn't feel as epic to me.

A system like that leeads for me only to one thing I farm that dungeon sell that Weapon 3-4 times till I have enough gold to buy the best version.
