ESO VS Wildstar

Post » Thu Aug 22, 2013 3:10 am

So, Wildstar has recently announced that they will be releasing with a sub model. However, the system that they are using is a bit different:

Also is announced for Spring of 2014. So, I'm curious if anyone else has been checking that one out? Personally, I've played World of Warcraft for over 6+ years. I'm looking for something different and more realistic in terms of graphics. Not really wanting to go back to a cartoon based style. Now, I do think that every game deserves a chance. So not gonna bash it, but majority of the time, I go where my friends go. And we are all looking forward to ESO. So, I'm just curious if anyone is going to try both? With both, having a sub model. I'll be sticking with ESO.

Also, EQNext from the looks of it, does not offer character creation? Random, sorry.

To be honest.

If you are looking for something that is actually more realistic in terms of graphics when looking at MMORPG's....... you are going to wait maaaaaaaaany years (If it will happen at all) before that happens.

Even TESO looks cartoonish.

The cartoonish visuals do tend to look good even after many years, which is why most MMORPG developers stick to such artstyles. However a realistic looking graphic artstyle will quickly become outdated and thus old. It took a long time for World of warcraft to actually look old, and still now it doesn't look THAT terrible, but the characters will recieve an update..... or so blizzard says.

So.... I bet we will always have cartoon MMORPG's...... well, unless we at some point reach a time where we just cannot upgrade gaming graphics anymore, where it have ended up being absolute, perfect if you will, but how long before that happens? 10.... 20 years? I mean, we are getting pretty close.

And just to stay on track.

I'll probably stick with TESO.

I have actually "preordered" TESO already from a trustworthy site, so that they can send it to me as soon as possible.

I wasn't too sure about Wildstar, so I don't wanna give it a try at all...... but TESO.... how can I not want to try it out?

Honestly, I couldn't give a toss about Wildstar. I'm interested into TESO because it's set in the TES universe, I like the artstyle and the direction of it's fantasy, gameplay and it's opening up the land in a way we haven't seen before even outside of what they've seen in the modding community to far.

I want to invest time into it because it's TES, not because it's an MMO. I'd could quite happily live without playing an MMO for quite some time given the constraints of a persistent online world.

Wildstar feels and plays like a game

TESO should feel and play like a virtuall immersive world..

Both very different games, but going for P2P with subs shows both developers have a lot of beleive in their games, because they must realise that this kind of subscription model can only be succesfull if your game is that much better then the F2P and B2P games, and if the game has enough pulling power to keep most of the players subbed for years..

No it doesn't. It just means the accounting departments feel they can make more money this way. [That isn't a criticism, just a basic fact of how businesses work]

Not sure where you got that last idea from. Of course it has character creation.

As for wildstar... I'm interested in it. It (and presumably its community) takes itself far less seriously, which is nice. Ultimately in both cases, it is going to depend on the content. If most of it can be breezed through in a month, the sub fees aren't going to matter. And the replayability on ESO seems pretty low, since the classes offer so little and the 50+ faction regions negates the need to create alts to experience more content.

TESO is the only MMO that I think truly is amazing now-a-days. (Use to like RuneScape but then it became a copy of every other MMO).

Out of curiosity, what strikes you as amazing? From a tech and design standpoint, it seems pretty much the same old stuff to me.

I can't play any game that is as cartoony as wild star, in my opinion it looks so ridiculous it looks like Disney Online to me. So ESO is a no brainer as it is not as cartoony, but not as sharp as skyrim, just the right level of detail for an mmo from what I've seen I feel.

Carbine will sell 1, 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions for WildStar, with prices ranging from $14.99/€12.99/£8.99 for a rolling one-month subscription, to $10.99/€9.99/£6.99 a month when purchasing a year's subscription upfront. [from the article]

Same sub prices NCSoft charged for CoX before it's bastardization into a half sub/half f2p monstrosity. I expect similar numbers for ESO's sub-prices.

ZOS should hold a Kickstarter to fund the cost of the things a fair percentage of us want; player housing, uber-guildhall development tools, etc, with the buy-in rewards being play time. Heck, make a buy-in level that gets you a lifetime sub at say 2/3's the price of whatever they're currently planning. Player benefit: immediate access to the player-side development stuff and pre-paid play time. ZOS benefit: upfront funding for those particular expansions

You really think so? I find the graphic to have a nice "realism" style compared to every other current MMO. A coming from someone who has played the game...the environments are stunning.

I too long for a less cartoony game to play. A more serious looking title...ESO is that game for me.

Just curious, what was it about ESO that looks like a cartoon to you? Charater models? NPCs? Locations?

Apples oranges, here wildstar will not attract he same type of players, different kinda game, only thing ESO and wildstar have in common is they are both online outside that completely different, nothing to compare..
