My Eurogamer experience part 2

The shadow was grainy BUT like I've said the TV was terrible! so I'm not going to make any final judgments on the graphics until release now.

Don't expect the shadows on the Xbox to get any less grainy because the Xbox is incapable of applying AA to alpha layers. Shadows on the PC will look far better as will most other graphical aspects of the game.

Wait... so the graphics and technical problems were that big of a problem ON THE LEAD VERSION?!

I'm very, very afraid for the PS3 version.

Well from what I saw both the nords and Orcs had 100 hp, 100 stamina and 100 magicka, I didn't move any objects around because I was having trouble with the controls as it was (use to playing on PC) I didn't look at any other perks other than the last destruction and the two handed perk that gave you a 25 percent chance to decap (it was pretty high up the perk tree), I didn't see any other racial bonuses, I did use both the powers for my Orc and Nord and they don't feel like spells anymore but actually something extra, the NPCs felt a lot more alive than they did in Oblivion, I really felt like I could have spent the whole night in that bar with the bards and the other NPCs drinking. I only saw Orcs, Nords, Imperials, Dunmers and Redguards I'm afraid.

In what way dont they feel like magic anymore? What I am trying to ask is: for example the Khajit will have the night vision, how would you imagen that this "new feel" of the ability would be in skyrim compared to the one in oblivion. Sorry if I dont make much sense, english is not my first language :)

Vixulation I have another question. It has been mentioned that NPCs no longer instantly disappear when going through cell-doors. They now open the door and then disappear into thin air.

My question is: did you see an NPC go through a cell-door like this? When the NPC opened the cell-door, what did you see? Was there a black hole, or something?

I'm curious because its seperate cells and no information is loaded between them...

@The Worl Eater. The only thing mods will be able to fix easily is the rain texture. I'm probably gonna do that myself the day I get the game. It should be really easy; just change the color and save. It would make a big difference I think. I thought rain looked much better and natural in Oblivion.

OK there has been a lot of confusion with this, yes NPCs do have an animation now for opening doors, the door opens "slightly" not all the way, inside the door all you see is black. However the opening doors animation only works when you see them going into a place but say for example you are in an interior and an NPC comes in, all you get is an instant phase in much like Oblivions.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification :)

I meant it in a good way, what I meant was that it wasn't just another spell that basically had no importance what so ever and actually feels like a unique part of every race and I can actually imagine myself using my racial ability throughout the entire game no matter what level I am, unlike in Oblivion where after level 5 your power is replaced by a much better spell.

Vixulation, other than the decap perk for two handed, did you spot any other unique or interesting perks for two handed?
Also, was the decap perk "long down" in the perk constellation, like one of the final perks?

Clipping rain aside, that thunderstorm in the demo looks awesome. Worse than Oblivion? No. Did you think it was worse Vix?

Oh my god how could I forget!! I never saw a giant myself but I did see someone fight one and I saw something amazing, When the giant tried to whack the player with a club the player quickly dodged and the giant hit the ground, in that instant the world shook and all this dirt, dust and rock rose up in the air. Was really amazing and really made the giants look scary and tough. They're not to be messed with.

I didn't really notice any other perks but the decap perks was maybe the third or fourth to the last, also I saw there was 5 levels for each perk. I saw butterflies didn't see any birds however, the storm in the demo was amazing but I didn't see that I only got rain and it was like Oblivions and like Morrowinds before it, I didn't see any change but everyone has their own opinions on it.

Gstaff posted in the other thread after it was locked...

Quote 8: (This I blame on the TV), the resolution, contrast and brightness were terrible. Everything was jagged, the LOD was pix-elated and the dungeons were really bright, I know this is due to the TV because a: They told me that they are not on 1080p or 720p but rather 480p! also the TV's were terrible, barely even HD, and the brightness was set too high.

Taking measures to make sure that doesn't happen again. Sorry about that. In regards to some of the other issues, keep in mind this is the same build we used for PAX... we made numerous improvements since.

I think the rain sky texture looks better than in Oblivion, but the rain texture itself looks worse I think.

Again..cause you probably looked past it.

So you didn't see any of that children? :)

- How are NPC animations...it's not like they were horrible in Oblivion to begin with but they can and should have been improved, how is it?
- As for combat still feeling like 'hitting a tree' so to speak...this is the same as what the footage has shown so far, right?

As for those graphical errors, i hope this is not one of the reasons they've kept showing the exact same path, dungeon, etc in videos.

If that makes you sick then sorry, but I really don't let things like that effect my experience. It's a video game. I don't care if other games do it better because I can pick something in those games that other games do better then them. I know some people don't agree with that and it's fine

While I agree that the "color" of the rain could use some transparency, the rain effect in general seems better to me. (Aside from the clipping issues)

Sorry I should have been more specific, what I mean was that in Oblivion you could cut through the mountains and get to a city in two minutes, where in Skyrim it's a lot harder to traverse the terrain.

Cool that is what I am looking for.

To clarify, would you say the path to get around is linear or is it easy to wonder off and get lost without hitting “obstacle terrain”? I.e. can I stray from a path in the woods and still have a lot of forest to explore until I hit a mountain that is tough to pass over?

Also, although it is tough to traverse the terrain, is it possible? I.e. when I come to that mountain that is hard to pass over, can I indeed climb it to get around it?

One last thing, when exploring, say if you were to want to climb a mountain as Todd points out in the demo, do you find your own path or is there paths laid out for the mountains?

Thank you for taking you time to share your experiences.

He already said NPC animations are much better and read my last post in regards to graphical issues. Gstaff said they've made many improvements since that build.

I think Skyrim, in general, has a noticeably stylized, cartoony (not too much, but I definitely think it's there) look to it.

Like I said I saw a child but just walked passed him, the animations are much better and improved and the combat feels more organic now.
