Not amused to be honest.June build or not,why the [censored] would they show that?.....they are showing off their game ,not trying to put people off.

This better not turn out like another new vegas, that game was a mess.

I can understand things like that in earlier builds, but why show it off.

Anyway,we'll see.

The demo at PAX was said to be the latest alpha build. Why a June demo is at Eurogamer a month after PAX is very odd.

Atleast this puts to rest the worry in the other thread where enemies are all on the same side.

I love the fact the wolves attacked the guards.

1. Berserk Racial power confirmed.

That's a relief... kind of.
Well not truly a relief, it's still sounded way too fast for a racial power.

Sorry, but you're wrong.

They don't change textures a few months before the release. Those are made from the start. If a certain texture is really bad, that of course can be changed. However, the OP described the textures in general to be bad.
What was so bad about them seemed to be texture depth. The solution to enhance this to a modern level and not a that outdated one is tessellation or parallax occlusion mapping. These are hugely time and resource demanding things and there's no chance in hell you'll see that in Skyrim.

The LOD coding is made from the start. Bethesda rewrote everything at the beginning, and bragged about it in their interviews and demos. To say that they start changing one of the most fundamental technical things in rendering a few months before the release is simply ridiculous.

You're right, but the PC might get better textures as has been said. The LOD is probably weak because of the 360.

Hi everyone, I went to the Eurogamer convention today and just got back home. Well as you can imagine the first thing I did was go to the Skyrim booth, while waiting I did too some of the staff for Bethesda, they told me that the current build they were showing was the promotion build and is the June edition, so as you can imagine there would be a lot of bugs so I'm going to start with the bad first...
1: Screen tearing (I think that's been fixed in the newer builds)
2: One player had the trouble of low frame rate, this lasted for roughly 8 seconds and then sorted itself
3: The loading screen is a little too long for comfort for me, but I'm sure this will be fixed and I'm sure PC users won't experience this
4: There was an issue with an invisible door where you could see the door handles floating but nothing else.
5: Heading far south I did notice an extreme issue with the water where it sort of connected with the land, I at first thought I was stepping on ground and then fell in water. (can't explain any better)
6: The textures were in my opinion not great, on close inspection the textures like the wall, items and everything were really really flat.
7: The LOD was pretty poor, I was perhaps 12 ft away and all of a sudden a treasure chest just appeared.
8: (This I blame on the TV, the resolution, contrast and brightness were terrible. Everything was jagged, the LOD was pix-elated and the dungeons were really bright, I know this is due to the TV because a: They told me that they are not on 1080p or 720p but rather 480p! also the TV's were terrible, barely even HD, and the brightness was set too high.

Ok now onto the actual gameplay, now my first playthrough didn't go too well I played an Orc, I went through to Riverwood and I heard the old lady scream out about the dragons as heard in the Skyrim Demo, the only difference was that the voices had changed. I then went through into a bar, being daytime still only the owners were inside, I was greeted by a funny argument between the husband and wife, the wife was moaning about having low stocks about a certain ingredient to which the husband was ignoring her and in the end said "yes I know" and she replied "so you don't have potatoes in your ears" I then spoke to the husband and asked about any rumours to which he replied that a certain somebody (can't remember the name) is searching for the Dark Brotherhood.

After leaving the bar I went outside and headed north again and on my way I killed a few wolves and bandits, finally I stumbled upon guards escorting a stormcloak prisoner and when I went upto the prisoner I had the option to set him free or set him free and give him items. I decided to set him free to which the three guards responded by attacking me and the prisoner, I have to say it was an impossible match! They killed the prisoner in less than 10 seconds and almost got me but thank Sithis a wolf came out of no where an began attacking the guards while I tried to escape, I then tried to run away but the guards quickly killed the wolf and began pursuing me yet again, almost dying I decided to use my heal spell and to my shock one of the guards yelled out "we can't win this" and began to flee only to return yet again.

Finally managing to escape thanks to more wolves and a horse I found and stole I came across a man sitting outside a cave calling for help, when I went up to him he told me that him and his partner were trying too collect bear pelts but had a little trouble. I decided to enter the cave and the first thing I came across was a Spriggan (and they look amazing, so dark and evil looking) the spriggan attacked me with bees and seemed to have some sort of camouflage power where it would turn invisible and reappear again. Finally being able to kill it I continued on however I then got attacked by a bear, an oh my god they're tough! I died twice from the same bear, I was able to kill bandits, a pack of wolves and a spriggan but the bear was the only thing able to kill me. Getting pissed off I went outside one the game loaded up again and decided to kill the man that sent me in there, expecting a battle I held down the attack trigger to find that my character had done an instant finisher, the move was something I never saw, basically my character shoved his sword into the NPCs guts and then quickly pulled the sword back out. Then my 20 minutes were up.

I'll be writing my second play through which was much better, I learnt a lot more new things so stay tuned.

you dare go to riverwood :banghead: guess this was a case of travelling the road trampled to powdery sand. ah well at least you had fun right?

So the "problems" are more with the Graphical part of the Engine rather than with the Gameplay? NIce to hear that. :disguise:

If you don't care about graphics at all, you should play Minecraft.

This is good news. Rumors were flying around here of the usual OB wildlife that magically teamed up with everyone but you to kill... only you.

I'm not too worried about the graphical issues you mention. Old build on what sounds like a terrible system. Boggles the mind that BGS allows their shiny new toy to be demonstrated on god awful displays...

Looking forward to your next gameplay update. Thanks for sharing!

Maybe it's because Todd wasn't there. When Todd is around, his aura makes early builds look and run like final builds.

Everyone has a right to be concerned (no matter how dramatic lol)
But that is only becuase we dOnt know what is going to be updated in the final build
A june build?? A lot has been improved since then.....
like i stated above bfbc2 beta was the same way
It was a whole different game when it finally released
I expect the same from skyrim
It will be updated severely right before release into its final build
And then its just patches and updates from there

I wasn't referring to bugs/glitches/graphics. I meant the world itself. I've seen people say the demo build doesn't have certain towns/cities/dungeons when that's not true. One preview mentioned Greywater Grotto, South Shriekand Bastian, and Bonechill passage. All dungeons we never heard of before. Another player from the 4PP podcast confirmed that all 5 main cities were in the demo. The carriage system was even active. That's how he saw them all.

It's a once a day racial power. Plus, it was a demo. From June. They tweak mechanics like that during beta. You know that. Relax

I wouldn't be falling back on this "June Build" nonsense too hard guys. It's highly unlikely that the LoD or ANY textures will be changed between then and now..

Floating doors and invisible doors? Sure..

Screen tearing? MAYBE

Frame Rate problems? Doubtful this will be fixed, consoles are struggling to keep 30fps as is

BUT

For us computer players.. it sounds like something we will take care of no problem..

Load times? Haha.. just installed a 120gb SSD
Framerate? My 2GB 6950 says bring it on
Screen tearing? force Vertical Sync on through GPU
Bad Textures? If true 1080p doesn't fix this mods will
LoD may be the only problem, just depends.. some games won't let you mod that.

BRING IT ON!

he he. yeah, i agree. there are certain things that get fixed and certain cons are a part of the engine and can't. with open games sometimes the strain on the hardware is unscripted and surprising, even for the devs. anything can happen.

and the fact that this is an older build doesnt mean that theres anything missing. the entire world and features are there. the game is not built one town after the other. it's build in parallel. the june built probably has all the content but a lot of glitches and bugs and optimization issues. i dont think ANYTHING is missing.

and i truely hope that LOD and drawing distance can be tweaked on the PC with mods or graphical options.
same for texture mods, but these take a lot of time to be made....

The PC textures won't have better depth. They will be as flat as the console ones. The PC textures will have slighly increased resolution to fit for the closer view we have when sitting in front of the PC. It will aim to look the same from the distance you sit near the PC and the distance you sit in front of the TV. Bethesda did this for MW, OB and FO3 and were there PC textures hi-res? No...
Sorry for sounding negative, just saying the past history of Bethesda on this very point.

The LOD is weak partly weak because of the 360, but we do know that it can be very high in open world games even so for games on the 360. Red Dead Redemption is a fine example to compare in terms of what is rendered. There's no way to say for certain but to me it looks like the draw distance is at least several times bigger in general, and even more several times bigger things like grass and bushes. So far I think the draw distance is VERY disappointing considering that it's the very main reason for creating this "new" engine and not using id Tech 5, and considering that Bethesda has bragged about it so much.

Vsions confirmed in that very thread that wolves attack bandits as well. People just jumped to conclusions and overreacted instead of reading his post as usual.

@hlvr It's been said many times that Tech 5 wouldn't be a good engine for their games.

If you don't care about graphics at all, you should play Minecraft.

If you don't care about Gameplay at all, you should not play games.

And don't do presumptions, that make you seems arrogant. I care about Graphics, I play High-Res Fallout 3 and New Vegas with many Weather Enhancement Mods to eliminate the Green/Orange atmosphere. I just said what I said because "us", PC Gamers, can introduce many "mods" (High-Res should not even be considered in the same category as "Mods") and make Skyrim very beautiful. The Console Players will get a great game with some "Graphical Issues" necessary to Skyrim run in them. (Xbox specially)

Gameplay Bugs, Problems and Issues > > > > > Graphical Bugs, Problems and Issues.
If that was not true, old games would not be good anymore because of their "poor graphics", and... They do still good.

The rate to auto regeneration Health is 1 HP per 1 second real time , at Level 1, and this is very, very FAST. BGS must change this before Gold.

Woohoo on the second playthrough! Did you see what the door to the Dark Brotherhood hideout looked like? Did it look like the door from Oblivion? Were you able to see what the riddle to the door was asking?

If it's just graphical stuff that doesn't affect the save file or cause issues with the game in terms of quests/ freezing stuff then that's not bad at all. Of course this is a june build so the final version should be a lot better. Overall that's not bad at all.

The Orc Racial power sounds awesome although it does regenerate fast.
