What We Know So Far
The following is an excerpt from Game Informer.com
"Wrapping your brain around a new Halo or Mass Effect is easy enough. Understanding a new franchise like Dishonored is a little harder, and our cryptic cover probably didn’t help much. Read on to get a sense of what this stealth/action adventure from Arkane and Bethesda is about – and to see the first screenshot of the game.

Who are you?
Players take on the role of Corvo, the Empress’ legendary bodyguard. As the game starts, Corvo is falsely imprisoned for her murder. What the corrupt Lord Regent behind the coup didn’t realize is that Corvo is legendary for a reason. He’s not only a skilled combatant accomplished in the art of not being seen, but Corvo has a suite of supernatural powers that combine with his natural talents and unusual gadgets to make him one of the most lethal men in the known world.

Why should you care?
Even if you haven’t played them, you’ve undoubtedly heard of Thief and Deus Ex. One of the main minds behind those two games, Harvey Smith, is the co-creative director of Dishonored along with Raf Colantonio, the founder of developer Arkane Studios. The two share a vision of a game that gives players the power to be creative with their skills and tactics, and invites them to come up with interesting solutions to the obstacles in front of them. Arkane is known for its immersive first-person gaming (Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic), and the power of a talent-driven publisher in Bethesda (The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3) behind the team is promising.

How are they going to do that?
Dishonored has several major elements that combine to create its unique gameplay: mobility, powers & gadgets, environment, and AI. The trick is that a single power doesn’t just do damage or heal you. You can combine them organically to create interesting effects. Stop time and knock a bunch of stuff off a table in one direction then book it in another, so the guards search for you in the wrong place. Summon a swarm of rats to attack one guard, but possess one of the rats and escape in the chaos. Every problem has as many solutions as you want it to.

What’s the catch?
It’s an assassination game that reacts to how violent you are. An unusual “chaos” system tracks how much collateral damage you cause, and the game world changes as a result of your actions. Unlike a light/dark side meter, though, it’s a behind-the-scenes element that affects story decisions without punishing the player or pushing them to play one way or another.

When can I learn more?
Soon! You can get ten pages worth of details in the print magazine, and we’ll be dropping new online content, from video interviews to an interactive map of Dishonored’s world, throughout the month. We asked a lot of questions, and Smith and Colantonio had a lot to say. For starters, on Wednesday we’ll share a video that breaks down why you should be interested in the team at Arkane even if you haven’t played any of their previous games."

How do we know there will be a morality system? Being able to stealth a mission or kill everyone doesn't mean there is some "morality system". In Deus Ex you could burn kids alive with a flame-thrower, or go through the entire game without killing anyone. But it didn't have a "morality system".

Someone working within Dishonored or someone who has had an inside look has stated this. Well find out if it is false or not with GI.

It's just a tiny tidbit, but someone calling themselves JP left this message at Rock Paper Shotgun. The Deus Ex designers alluded to are not Harvey Smith.
Some level designers from Deus Ex 1 and Bioshock 2 are on staff as well.
(They are badasses. I hired them.)

Obviously this is still firmly in the rumors category until we figure out who it was, but since it's RPS I think it's probably legitimate.

The comment is a little ways down on this thread: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/07/11/dishonored-preview/

Hmmmmmmmmmmm well these forums seem booming don't they. :shakehead:

Am I the only one bursting in my pants that the creator of Deus Ex and Fallout 3 are working on a game together?

I mean that's just incredibly awesome. :goodjob:

maybe QuakeCon? i mean i highly doubt we'll see anything particularly detailed but given the state of the game based on the screenshots that's the earliest i can imagine a trailer or something coming out.

actually [censored] isn't this supposed to come out this year? or was that next year? if it's this year then E3 is totally out of the question so QuakeCon is really the only place for it at all.

ed oh no it's next year nevermind. so yeah maybe a trailer at QC and a gameplay demo at E3. i wonder if Harvey and Raf will hold a panel about immersive sims at QC?

I put up this video on YouTube, I'm extremely excited to play this game. (It's stuff you've likely seen, but I edited together into one video)

Same video + a little bit of text but directly from GameInformer -> http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/07/20/the-look-and-feel-of-dishonored.aspx

Great video, with nice concept arts. The Water doesn′t look like Unreal3 water...

I'm loving how they got the art director from Half-Life 2 on board. This game screams dystopia, and they have the guy that thought up City-17.

WOW. That was awesome.

Best part: As you crouch at the end of the walkway, he pulls his sidearm. Things look dire, but you've got an idea. You'll only get one shot at it, though. He pulls the trigger. There's a puff of smoke. You freeze time. The bullet halts in mid air, hanging suspended only feet in front of your chest. Next, you possess the man who just fired - your body disappears while your spirit is elsewhere. Once he's in your control, you can make the man move again. You do just that, stepping him around and into the path of the bullet he just fired. As time threatens to once again speed forward, you slip out of the guard's body and away down the walkway. You don't even turn around as the man's own bullet takes his life.

And I have an important request of information: In the PC version will there be a fully functional quicksave system again?

Too many games these days forget about quicksaving because all the effort on consoles goes into foolproof autosave checkpoints (or whatever the real reason may be). Human Revolution does this right and past Arkane games have also but after reading this multiple choice thing I was reminded of how often I used to replay certain segments of Dark Messiah (trying to complete an area taking the least possible damage, killing in the most heroic, choreographed way possible etc.) and I realized that it was a make or break element of the game for me. I wouldn't have had even HALF the fun without all the experimenting!
