Facebook photos to, well, real photos?

Post » Wed Feb 13, 2013 4:58 am

Basically there is a photo on Facebook that I'd like to give to a friend as a gift. It may need to be blown up a bit however, and I don't want it to be terrible quality.
I could not be more clueless about this stuff, so what is the easiest way to get it from Facebook into a decent photo? Good enough to be a present, so preferably not just copied into paint and then printed off...

Thanks in advance!!

There is an option to download facebook photos, however facebook photos are usually JPEGs and aren't as high quality as the original is. Do you or your friend own the original, or does someone else? If it's someone else it might be worth messaging them and asking if they might let you have the original copy of the photo, as it's likely to be a higher quality and will look better after the resizing.

Problem is, photos on websites are JPGs and hence already have compression in them for the size they are. Top that with most websites resizing the image, it is tough to make a decent print of a picture from the web unless you can get a raw or other type of uncompressed file to work with.

However, printing the picture is easy.

Right Click on it, save it somewhere.

Print it out on a Photo Printer (most print shops will do this)

Use GIMP to manipulate the photo if you don't have Photoshop or similar.

Ok thanks, the quality is what I was worried about. And I think they took the original, so that might ruin the surprise.
I'll see what I can do though, thanks again for the replies.

You really need to take the time to ask the poster's permission. Just because he put it on FB for the world to see does not mean he has given up any rights to the photo.
