/facepalm, The dumbest thing I've ever seen

Post » Fri Jan 14, 2011 8:21 am

I just don't know what to say to this. I was in Game Stop today and saw that New Vegas had come out. Being a huge F3 and Oblivion fan I picked it up on the spot. Upon returning home I popped the CD in and started playing. After finishing the quests in Goodspring (the starting town,) I attempt to run to Primm or whatever the hell the next city is and it's like there is an imaginary circle of xbox freezing doom around Goodspring. It doesn't matter what path I try to take or anything. So naturally I look it up online.

And there's tons of bug stories. Which is nothing new, I played F3 shortly after launch, I'm used to some bugs, but this is not merely a bug and I can't find anybody else who is having the same problem. I can't leave the starting town. So I attempt to install the game to my xbox, thinking maybe if I run it from there it will help, right? It freezes every time at 33% and tells me to clean the disc. Now at this point you're probably thinking I'm a [censored] who put my grimey ass hands all over the disc, right? No. I pulled it out of the box and put it in my xbox, never touched the bottom, never even thought about it...

So I pull the disc out of my xbox wondering, wtf? I find my disc cleaning cloths and start going over the disc... Somehow somebody has put their finger print INSIDE the damn disc. You're probably reading this like, "this guy's crazy." But I [censored] you not. I don't know if these disc's have a protective coating put on after they are written or what but somebodies finger print is underneath the coating on the bottom and inside the disc and is causing this disc to be unreadable... Seriously? /facepalm

The worst part is, Game Stop closed 5 minutes before I was able to make it back... I'm really hating you guys right now, debating returning the game entirely. This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I can't wait to have this conversation with the kid at Game Stop tomorrow morning.

Crap happens sometimes. Just go back to Gamespot and ask for an exchange. No big deal. I had this happen to me before, and the disc was defective. Just exchange it for a new one. Now if you get 3 of these then you have a right to complain. So you missed the store by 5 minutes. Again crap happens. It can be worse. Just exchange it tommorrow is you can.

You just have no idea how many hours I wasted blindly running into the invisible circle from hell. How many different approaches I tried before I found that finger-print...

It could be your 360 crapping out. Mine started to say it needed the disc cleaned when the disc drive started to crap out. But it could be the game. who knows.

That svcks, I've had a similar issues like that before. It's not the fact that the crap thing happened that's the most irritating it's that you spend so damn long trying to get it to work (different methods to get out of Goodsprings in your case) and there was no hope. Then you think to yourself at the store, damn if I had checked ten minutes earlier I wouldn't have to wait till tomorrow.

Oh snap, you lose all your saves then?

The worst part was I'm sitting there pulling on the handles of the store and the [censored] kid at Game Stop who sold me the game looks at me like, "[censored] that, I'm going home." Can't say I wouldn't do the same but at that moment I'm glad there weren't any lose bricks laying around... Also, there's no way it's my xbox, it's almost brand new, I just bought it when I upgraded tv's (I had one of the older models that didn't have have hdmi outputs.) But this new one has taken hours and hours and hours, oh and ya, more hours of MW2 without a hitch.

It's going to be hilarious trying to explain that to a Gamestop employee.

"No, no, no. You're not listening to me. The fingerprint is -inside- of it. INSIDE OF IT!"

That svcks - I had similar happen once when I bought a game with a bad disk and had to return it, unfortunately manufacturing processes are never completely devoid of human error - but when it happens to you it can ruin your evening. The store should exchange it for you if you take it back and point out the problem to them. If they don't swap it there and then, contact their head office straight away.

This is outrageous! I demand you fire whoever did this! People are never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever allowed to make mistakes, no matter what! Bethesda, you svck! Fire them now! [/sarcasm]

I'm just messing with you. This situation is pretty funny, to be honest.

Update: I exchanged the disc for a new one at Game Stop this morning and I freeze at the same place. Everytime I try to leave Good Spring my game locks up and I have to reboot my xbox...

Damn that svcks! Sorry about your disc :( Reminded me of something that happened to me once.
I bought a watch at Wal Mart and later noticed that it had a fingerprint on the underside of the glass face. I took it back in and the guy behind the counter took out his little tool set (yeah this is back when they used to take watches apart and put batteries in for you at the store) and took the face off only to discover that the fingerprint was UNDER whatever they coated the glass with (anti-scratch stuff? I dunno). They exchanged the watch no problem but still it was wierd.

2. Uninstall your game and reinstall it. Your current install is based off of the other disk.

Yep Seti's right, chances are the corruption occurred when you first installed the game. If you uninstall the game (and delete the old saves) you should be able to reinstall it just fine.

Given the direction this started to go in I think it's time to lock this thread.
