Faction Imbalance?

Post » Fri May 10, 2013 4:09 am

What annoyed me about most MMO's is that there was always one faction better than the other... usually it was the "lighter" side, an example of this is that in SWTOR, there are more Imperial players than Republic players, because obviously holding a red lightsaber looks more badass, which in turn, meant that Republic players won warzones most of the time (on my server) due to loads of 8 year olds who want to be Darth Vader and Darth Maul etc...

What I like about this game at the moment is that we have 3 factions, 9 races, neither of them seem "better" than the other.

I am going to be a Nord simply because I'm a huge fan of Skyrim, but it seems loads of people are interested in the lizard heads and the cat heads.

With there being an Emperor position, whats there to say that one faction or one race will always be the emperor? And what happens if people decide to re roll to another faction due to imbalance?

My question is, do you think there will be a faction imbalance in this game? And how will it affect the game if there is?

If there is a faction imbalance and is the one winning then you can expect the other two factions to team up together in the name of convenience. The triangle is apparently the strongest shape in nature and it applies in this case too, it means that no one faction will be all powerful one all the time.

The polls i've seen have all seem to indicate that it's the Ebonheart faction that will be the biggest of the three and it's the bretons, nords and dunmer which are quite popular. I assume the Bretons are popular because they seem to exhibit the closest familiarity with the Imperial races and the Nords and Dunmer are also races whose cultures have been centered around quite largely in the previous games.

Even if one side was 10% more powerful, that would still not give them much of an advantage.

Let's say the norm is 33% even power.

Now give one section more power so one is 43% of the power. They still have to fight the other 57% of the other two factions.

I am kinda in a tug war between the orcs and khajits.

I have always loved orcs, orcs are just amazing.

But khajits are cool too.

It is hard to choose.

Isn't the Ebonheart Pact made up of Argonians, Dunmer, and Nords?

But what if one side had 60% of the players?

Whats to say that people (such as dedicated pvpers) wont reroll to the other faction? Then people are gonna say "this faction always wins" nad it will become the norm?

Indeed. There was no connection insinuated in my comment between the biggest faction and the most popular races. Winky face.

What does dedicated pvpers have to do with switching sides? OH, you mean wussies who will switch to make life easier for themselves?

Even if they did switch, there are other dedicated pvpers who like a challenge.

Either way, you would have to have such a huge imbalance on one faction that the other two factions could not fight them.

I don't see that happening.

Are you asking if one faction was 60% of the total population? ...and the other two factions were only 20% of the population?

Is that a serious question?

I would hope that the megaserver would be smart enough to assign fair numbers of each alliance per shard as to keep everything balanced.
