Faction Questline Lengths

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 4:18 pm

How long do the faction questlines feel to you, because I haven't played it yet, but, I've heard different things from different people, some say its of normal length, others say its really short. How does it compare to oblivion?

I think that the Companions questline, without fast travelling, was about 4 hours.

The College and Companions questlines were REALLY short I felt, but the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood seem REALLY long in comparison. It's odd, the two stealth guilds have longer and better questlines than the two combat guilds, and I never even knew until my third character (stealth build)

Your question was longer than the questline. :)

Not quite, but the College of Winterhold and the Companions are both rather short. You can blow through them in a few hours, so if you're not wanting to become the leader of the faction, be careful. There are a number of unrelated [to the main faction quest(s)] radiant quests per faction, but the main quests typically encompass only a few (but well done from what I've seen) quests. DB and Thieves' Guild are closer to Oblivion numbers (10-20).

Oblivions faction quests are much deeper and longer..and better imo.So dont expect much from Skyrims or you will be disappointed.

Are the quests at least better done/more complex, do they have multiple "stages" or anything? Are there at least more factions?

I fel the same thing. For me it was not even the length or number of quests, per se, but rather it felt like I was an instant celebrity. I join up any of the guilds and all of a sudden everyone is complementing me on being such a good member, on doing so much for the guild, on being such a paragon of awesomeness.

Hang on, all I did was pass your initiation quest, and now you are giving me quests of vital importance to your guild and trusting me in the inner levels of your guild workings? Really? I know there are radiant quests, and I am doing those to make myself feel like more of a member, but I don't have to do them to be vital to the operation of the guild. Without doing a single one of them the thieves guild hail me as useful. I feel like I should be working my way up with basic radiant quests, a few lower level set-quests, and THEN after working through the ranks I should be working to solve the existential problems of the guild. I miss gaining ranks in an organisation.

I like the factions but they leave something to be desired. I also miss gaining rank and stepping up the ladder.

The questlines are taking me a while to do but that's because I'm not just doing mission after mission. I'll do a Thieves Guild mission, for example, and then wander around doing side quests for a few hours before returning to the Thieves Guild.

I've finished the Dark Brotherhood, and the Thieves Guild quest-lines. Both were shorter than the corresponding guilds in Oblivion.
