I fel the same thing. For me it was not even the length or number of quests, per se, but rather it felt like I was an instant celebrity. I join up any of the guilds and all of a sudden everyone is complementing me on being such a good member, on doing so much for the guild, on being such a paragon of awesomeness.
Hang on, all I did was pass your initiation quest, and now you are giving me quests of vital importance to your guild and trusting me in the inner levels of your guild workings? Really? I know there are radiant quests, and I am doing those to make myself feel like more of a member, but I don't have to do them to be vital to the operation of the guild. Without doing a single one of them the thieves guild hail me as useful. I feel like I should be working my way up with basic radiant quests, a few lower level set-quests, and THEN after working through the ranks I should be working to solve the existential problems of the guild. I miss gaining ranks in an organisation.
