I'm trying to become Thane, but whenever I try to talk to the Jarl he just talks and doesn't give me any quests to complete. I've done misc quests for the people but nothing from the Jarl. I read that to get purchase some land I need to be thane, etc.

Hearthfire for PS3 is coming in a couple of hours, so some help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think you have to be level 20 to start some of those quests. Also, have you killed his steward for the DB?

I'm level 22, and haven't killed his steward.

If the Jarl is Siddgeir, you may need to do his fetch quest Rare Gifts before he will give you the quest that results in him offering to make you Thane.

Rare Gifts is a radiant quest that can be given by Siddgeir and by five other NPCs. If you have a Rare Gifts quest already in your journal you can't get a second one from anybody else until the open one is completed.

Check your journal to see if you have a fetch quest from any of the following NPCs:

Captain Aldis
Lami
Rustleif
Torbjorn Shatter-Shield
Ysolda

If the Jarl is Dengeir because you're playing the CW as a Stormcloak and have already taken Falkreath for your side, he should offer to make you Thane the first time you talk to him after he's back on the throne. You will need to choose the dialogue option "is there anything else you need" in order for him to make the offer.


Edit: FWIW there is no level requirement for any of Siddgeir's quests.

Hmm. You could try going to the UESP and seeing if that has any tips to getting that quest to work.

Jarl is Siddgier.

I *think* I have that quest in my list but just haven't gotten around to doing it. I'll have to check when I get back on my PS3. Hopefully it's there.

I don't recall him giving me a fetch quest either.
