I been wondering if you would be able to register Fallout New Vegas on steam if you buy it retail?

You have to because it uses Steamworks.

It's a Steam game. You have to register it with Steam to play it.

Not a bad service, actually. You don't have to put up with obtrusive DRM, you get offline mode, in-game IM/web browsing service(With Flash), handy dandy tracking of achievements, easy installation, don't have to worry about remembering where the disc is, awesome sales for other games..I could go on all day. Sure beats the hell out of SecuROM and GFWL, that's for sure.

in-game IM/web browsing service(With Flash)

I have to ask....... is this really a feature that people use and/or like? Maybe I'm showing myself to be an old fogie, but - honeslty, why the heck would anyone want that?

/honest confusion

No having to alt+ tab out of the game. Saves me a lot of trouble. My favorite part about Steam is actually the overlay. It's just really convenient to me.

In a game powered by Gamebryo it's a godsend. Fallout 3 will NOT tab back in. So if I want to wiki something I've found to figure out just what the hell it is, or if I need a hint with a quest, I can just hit shift+tab, browse to the wiki and have a go. Or if I want to listen to a certain song for a battle or something I can go to Youtube and play it.

The in-game browser has to be one of my favorite Steam features.

Steam IM is another biggie. ALL of my online friends contact me through it. I can chat with them from within game, without alt-tabbing and risking a game crash. Another pretty awesome feature if you ask me.

Yes, there's nothing like listening to "Weird Al" Yankovic's Weasel Stomping Day while killing Mole Rats. :P

Seriously, Steam is one of the best things that I've ever seen for PC gaming. I especially love the voice chat function.

Only real downside to STEAM is that a new game like FNV always costs the MSRP whereas when you buy it via (online) retail you can get it much cheaper.

That's what I'm planning on doing anyway, buy it via online retail so that I can install it off the DVD (so I won't have to download 10+ GB) and still get to register it to get a digital download too.

Personally, I have no interest in IM or chatting/browsing from within a game, but then I'm an old fogie too! :P

That said, I use Steam for about half the games I have installed, and I really like it as a distribution platform.

Most of my friends (In real life) use Steam, so its nice to be able to talk with them while playing separate single-player games. Plus they have awesome deals. bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl for 3 dollars, and then got a $20 loyalty discount for for Call of Pripyat on the first week it came out.

I welcome our Steam-powered gaming overlords with welcome arms. I just hope Gabe doesn't eat my computer...

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot voice chat too. Is there anything Steam can't do?

Steam usually pre-loads games a few days prior. That way on release day all you have to do is get an unlock code and go. I'll probably spend two or three days pre-loading if it really is ten gigs, as my internet is pretty fail. 250-350KB/s down in Steam, on a good day.

Tell me about it. I recently bought Mass Effect for $5. Didn't care much for the game, but for such a low price, I'll take the risk on a game that I've been on the fence about. Glad I didn't pay $50 to discover that it wasn't my thing.

That STALKER loyalty deal was a pleasant surprise too--always nice to get a bonus $20 discount on something I was going to buy anyway.

Seriously, right now they have a quake-con pack that is worth $267 separately for $70. Yesterday they were selling Oblivion GOTY deluxe for 8 bucks. Hooray for Steam!

It's actually a big deal for me, because I have friends on Steam who are getting New Vegas and also frequent these forums, so it's nice to chat with them.

Also, the Steam sales are probably the best part. I got Oblivion Deluxe for $9, BioShock for $5, Deus Ex: GOTY for like $2, and the list goes on.

Yeah, that's where I'm coming from. I don't believe I've ever used any kind of IM system. But, then, I'm also old enough that I don't have a cellphone grafted to my ear, either, so.....

Steam is nice as a distribution tool, and their deals are great. (Of course, I've never bought anything above Half Life 1 or an indy game from them - I don't feel like our broadband system is up to casually downloading 2gb+ game files yet. Maybe someday broadband'll be a govt regulated utility, and we'll get a modern system at reasonable prices.)

I dont really bother with the extra functions steam has, but the deals are awesome. The only reason I wont buy a physical copy of a game is because I can get it so cheap on Steam, although I've found I can save around £5 getting a hard copy of a new release most of the time. I got the THQ pack a few months back, around £250 worth of gaming for £25  - not bad considering the game in the pack I was going to buy anyway was £30! Just got the DOOM games deal today, should keep me occupied unill New Vegas!
