Fallout Reference in 60 Seconds!

Not to be confused with the Nic Cage move 'Gone in 60 Seconds,' '60 Seconds!' is a little indie game on steam that has the player scramble to stock their home's bomb shelter with supplies within 60 seconds then survive as long as they can. So I was messing around with it and one of the random events that happened was this. http://oi58.tinypic.com/4ktee1.jpg For any of you that don't fully understand, it's a reference to the first Fallout game. And just in case anyone wants to know, the game is available on Steam. Just search '60 Seconds!'

I don't really recommend 60 Seconds! unless one is a fan of a purely RNG experience, where whether you win or lose is dependent on a dice roll.

I especially love having all four family members yet only being able to save ONE item from surprise flooding/earthquakes. Also a family member going crazy and using the map as toilet paper.

Yeah the earthquake bit really bugs me. I even made a thread about it on the steam forums. The last time I played I got the earthquake on day 15 or so and it popped up the gas mask, the radio, and the flashlight as items I could choose from to save. The gas mask was already destroyed when wife went out scavenging so the only things worth saving were the flashlight or the radio. I saved the radio, but then a few days later I started hearing military telling us to use the flashlight to signal them... but it was broken because for some reason no matter how many people you have you can only save 1 item and I saved the radio. With no working flashlight and no luck scavenging one, I missed the rescue signals 3 or 4 times before finally, at day 43, after wife had been captured by looters I sent husband out and he was chased off by bandits so it was game over.

The game would be infinitely improved if you could prioritize scavenging instead of depending on the mercy of the internal dice roll. Like if you need Food more then Water or vice versa, or if you want to stress the importance of getting non-perishable supplies (Flashlight, Radio, Boy Scout Handbook, etc).

Sending people out blindly and hoping you don't get the stupid church event (Oh boy. Two water bottles...that eases the hunger pangs when I sent you out!).

It's a great design in theory. The problem is there's just zero interaction with the game world after you get into the shelter.

Yeah I ended up requesting a refund. I gave it two and a half hours and no matter how well I stocked the shelter the game screwed me over every time. In the last game, flood happened so of the important things, I had to choose to save either my radio or my map, so I saved the radio. Then a few days later the bit about the army giving coordinates came up but without a good map I couldn't do anything. A day after that I got the option to fix the map with the boyscout handbook so I did that but the map was completely destroyed. Then a couple days later an animal broke into the shelter and broke my god damned radio. It's literally like the game is intentionally breaking all the stuff you need so you cannot survive and get rescued.

Methinks this might be a major point or theme of the game. Survival isn't guaranteed, and it's actually hard to do so under the conditions you're given, and perhaps impossible if you choose the wrong thing at the wrong time.

I know it wasn't meant to be easy, but in my experience it was literally impossible because no matter how well I stocked, what items I took with me, very important items would be destroyed and then I'd be screwed and the random events that would resupply the destroyed items would never pop up when I needed them. Maybe I just had terrible luck, idk, but the most I managed to survive was 43 days but even then I had no hope of rescue because my flashlight and radio were broken and I got a game over when I sent Ted out looking and he got chased off by raiders.

There's a difference between the game being difficult and survival is not guaranteed to having the game designed like a Carnival Claw Machine. You can do everything right, but the programming means you're going to fail nine times out of ten.

I even watched a Lets Play of the game...the guy got so frustrated he moved the difficulty down to Little Boy (Easy) Mode. Guess what?

The game's difficulty did not change in the slightest.

I don't regret my purchase per say, but I did give the game a stamp of "Not Recommended" due to the random nature of the game. I'm all for the capricious hand of fate, but 60 Seconds goes overboard.

That said, the Fallout event in the game is extremely cute.
