Fallout 3 or Skyrim?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 2:04 pm

So after all the hype I got from last you I finnaly decited to by a Bethesda game at release. Bought Skyrim and playd the main-quest and are know exploring the world. Its a great game but as many people, I am still dissapointed about it. It just doesnt feel like Bethesda was innovative enough or brought enough ideas in the game.

So my question is; Do you think Fallout 3 was more brilliant? When it came out, there was literaly no other game like it (exept for ealier FO games). The world, the atmosphere, even the exploring part were alot better and very location had a little story to it. Nothing in that game felt like "filler content" that I sometimes get with Skyrim. It just feels like Fallout 3 was more thought through by Bethesda.

So what do you think Is Fallout 3 better than Skyrim?

I prefer the Fallout series to the Elder Scrolls series, but FO3 isn't better than Skyrim.

Fall Out 3 was even worse. They took a shooting game and try to pause it often while in Skyrim they just added a pause menu. Though both games have severe limitations to what you can use per character, you can't have tools of destruction just stick with one play style the entire game. That aside FO is mostly desert, even more bland than a bunch of mountains or plains.

I generally don't respond to subjective topics, but here's my two cents as I see it -

FO3 was, to me, a more appealing world with more excitement and a sense that the things you did actually had merit. Skyrim is a beautiful and immersive world which captivates my imagination more but doesn't deliver the same impact as the Fallout series. As a TES player since Arena, I've always felt that TES games were incredible but lacking in overall story and consequences. Fallout has always delivered on story but has yet to deliver the immersion of TES.

I like Skyrim more than Fallout 3. It's just my opinion, and I'm sure others would disagree, but I think I've already logged more time in Skyrim than Fallout 3.

I just couldn't immerse myself, or RP very well, in Fallout 3, because I was fairly limited in my character's story and his motives. I tried the Evil Karma side once, and it felt like my guys was an idiot, so I was more or less confined to Good Karma or Neutral. Sure, I could RP being evil, while not actually doing the more evil actions, and I did just that.

It's hard to put my finger on it, really. I was able to get into Fallout 3 more than Fallout: New Vegas, but not as much as MW, OB, or Skyrim.

Skyrim.

I mean, if we're talking Fallout 3 compared to Skyrim, Skyrim wins HANDS ****ING DOWN.

FO3 was "ok" for the game itself (when it felt like running and didn't crash every 5 minutes), but it lacked everything that made Fallout, Fallout. New Vegas corrected that, but it wasn't done by Bethesda, and actually had many people who worked on the first two Fallout games working on New Vegas and it's DLC.

I have not played Skyrim enough to tell.

Right now of the Bethesda games I've played Oblivion is still my favorite. But Skyrim might replace that after exploring it more.

But Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout 3 are all great games.

Fallout 3 without mods was pretty much EZ mode. There was no way anyone should die through the whole game of Vanilla Fallout 3, especially using VATS. That said, this mod changed everything and is the sole reason Fallout 3 will forever be on my hard drive, haha

I prefer the Elder Scrolls series myself. In its current form, I'd still have to give the award to Fo3/NV as better games but only because I have DLC, patches and over a hundred mods on both these installs. They are freaking awesome.

Skyrim by comparison is a blank canvas. Lots of potential, but completely unfulfilled in its current state. I'm willing to bet that in 2013 it'll be my favorite game of the three though!

I am only 30 hours into Skyrim, so I will reserve judgement. However, Fallout 3 blew my mind. I loved almost everything about that game.

To this day I have yet to finish New Vegas. Something about that game prevented me from finishing it. It probably had something to do with the "Country" theme as I hate anything country... lol

Skyrim.

Once Bethesda gets all of the bugs out, Skyrim will stomp a mud-hole in Fallout's face!

I like both but Skyrim is better in my opinion

Skyrim just needs to be patched, balanced, and tweaked a bit by Bethesda to be awesome

I honestly don't know. Fallout 3 had more RPG elements and depth in the story then Skyrim does. I would say Fallout 3 if I had to make a hasty generalization. Once the CK is released and about 6 months has passed. Skyrim will be at it's peak.

I have to disagree. I never got into New Vegas, and didn't find it as fun as FO3 or any TES games. I can't explain it, because I don't even know why, but I didn't enjoy it very much.

Fallout 3 was sort of a revelatory experience for me that was led me to start playing RPG's, but I think I might like Skyrim just a bit more.

FO3 and Skyrim are very good games, i think skyrim is more immersive even and overall game mechanics are better, even more randomness to the game, the huge amount of quests and things to do, the way respawns work never leaves you feeling there isn't something to do...compared to lets say new vegas which hardly anything respawned, the same creatures respawns in the same areas, most of the enemies were very underpowered using lead pipes and weak weapons, the game world got empty as you played so this is where bethesda just blows away so many other games, there's a lot to do, tons of good situations and places to explore, stalk enemies, lots of dungeons that not only do enemies respawn but containers etc. so i think skyrim jams, apart form the bad patch the game is excellent.

I love Cowboys. :D So I guess that helped me.

You don't think Bethesda brought enough ideas to the game....okay - well, before I condemn you...what ideas or innovations would you add to Skyrim? Cause in my estimation...in a nutshell, its Fallout 3 and New Vegas without guns and WITH dragons....So, I like it alot. You are disappointed....LOL - okay - like I said, what changes would you have liked to see?

Its not enough to throw stones and say the devs on Skyrim weren't innovative and didn't bring enough ideas to the table if you have none of your own....what say you OP?

they are basically the same game (not a bad thing...in fact it's a very good thing). wonderfully created worlds with immersive environments, great exploration with plenty of combat. but they also both suffer from bad writing and weak, forgettable characters (and FO3 had some lackluster dlc with the exception of point lookout). dragons are more epic than building a water purifier, so my vote will go to skyrim. loved FO3, it's a great game, it just has a terrible story.

give me obsidian's writing and bethesda's game world.
