Farewell to Hotmail and Hello to Outlook

Post » Thu Aug 02, 2012 9:48 am

I just heard on the Swedish radio that Micosoft has decided to shut down Hotmail and in the next few months all Hotmail users will be offered an alternative with Outlook.

Hopefully Outlook.com isn't too different, I really like Hotmail.

I quite like the new Outlook, I grabbed a suitable user name whilst I could. It is similar in many ways to GMail and I do prefer Gmail at the moment - maybe when I get used to it ......

I've never really liked hotmail, though I've never used anything other than gmail since they first started the beta, so maybe it was different back then.

Never used Hotmail. Just registered there so I'd have an e-mail for other registrations on sites like this one.

So they want us to spend more time beyond just you know... checking messages, deleting them and then... nope. That's it.

I still like gmail overall. All the gmail ads are just in text, so it doesn't slow down how fast you load the page :P

Ugh, made a mess of that. Grabbed myself a suitable @outlook.com address and then realised I should've done it using the "create an Outlook alias" when I was already signed in instead of creating a new account, since Microsoft has a rather convoluted and dubiously useful system for linking accounts rather than just merging them. Why are some things so difficult...
