Fast food problem...

Post » Fri Oct 19, 2012 12:38 pm

So I happen to work at KFC and I've been there for about a year and half. I started in june last year and weighed only about 160-165, now its been about a year and a half almost and I weigh 195. I've really noticed that I've gained alot of body fat since starting there and lost my athletic physique. The problem is we can eat the food free so I always eat it every day I work and I feel so bad since I know its bad for you. I'm really trying not to eat it anymore but there's nothing that healthy there except for green beans and they don't really fill you up. So I need some motivational advice on how to resist the food if anyone else has ever worked in fast food here.

Also any tips on maybe packing some healthy food to bring would be greatly appreciated.

Eat before you go in, take fruit with you, have some self control.

Plan ahead. If you know it's an issue, remind yourself in the morning not to eat it and plan what you will eat. Keep reminding yourself of the results of eating it whenever you feel the urge. Don't make excuses like "just today", stay committed to your goals.

How much do you eat for lunch? You could try eating less at lunchtime, and then make something healthy for dinner.

I'm sorry, and I mean no offense by this, but what do you mean you "only" weighed 260? That is obese for someone that is 6 feet tall.

I have pretty much eaten fast food at the very least 3 days out of the week although there was a 7 month stent in which i ate every day. I burn alot of calories at my job so ive been lucky to not have gained weight.

The reason i don't stop is that i really don't want too, i'll stop for a while but i end up eating fast food again. Soon i wont have a choice since i won't be able to afford it any more.

Best advice is to go cold turkey (they don't serve turkey there do they?) and bring you own lunch. i would start with getting canned soup, its pretty cheap compared to proportions of other food and is pretty filling and tastes good.

Eat before you go in, take fruit with you, have some self control.

eating before going in is a good idea. its less an issue with self control as it is an issue with motivation as ive personally discovered. Its not that you have no control, its that you do have control and while you know its bad you still want it. Tastes good > healthy is the scale of the motivation. At least in my case.

The thing to remember is that KFC is absurdly unhealthy, the chicken that you guys serve is among the worst food in America, seriously, that fried chicken has SO much trans fat in it, it's a walking heart attack waiting to happen. The sad thing? So is your grilled chicken. I've seen how KFC makes their "Grilled" chicken, and it's not even grilled at all. It's still dipped in oil. Ugh. It makes me sick to even think about.

NOTHING is healthy there, and if you eat there even more than twice a week you WILL gain weight, and you are putting yourself at risk of hearth disease, among other things. Just say no, man. Bring your lunch.

One last thing, weight isn't everything. Someone who is extremely thin with a fast metabolism is liable just as everyone else for eating crap like that. The damage is done on the inside, not just the outside. Stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, you name it.

Yeah everything you've said is just about true. I'm going to try to get thru my 7 hour shift today and not eat anything.

Slow-release energy is your friend in this situation. Eat before you go to work. Things like pasta, rice and cereals should stave off hunger longer than others while ensuring you don't feel too tired while working.

If you want to take snacks with you then try cereal bars (not too much sugar, though - I make my own with dried fruits and honey). Bananas are also great for snacking on.

Yeah, and food like that will get you fat eventually even if you've high metabolism. I'm 6' 2" and weighed about 130 pounds since i was 15. I'm 23 now and only the last 6 months I've gained about 22 pounds, because I've eaten so much fast food. Plus it makes you feel like crap.

I'd suggest simply bringing food from home to eat, but those potato wedges at KFC are amazing.

Good luck, OP.

Eat eggs, porridge, or eat a banana. eating all three would be best for breakfast. That keeps you going a long time. I love buttery scrambled egg with 5 eggs in the morning. Porridge is also great and with a pinch of salt, or sugar or syrup. Remember breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Look into the mirror every day before you go to work and just tell yourself bad things.

Really, it's probably the only way to properly motivate yourself to become thin and fix those bad things. Think of it this way. If you can see everything that is wrong with you, so can anyone else.

Works for me. I look into the mirror and come up with everything I think is bad and force myself to work on it. It's how I stay beautiful.

Just saying but this is really bad practise. You'll never be satisfied with yourself as nobody sees themselves as perfect (unless they are a total jerk).

But if you pick apart everything you don't like, you know what to work on.

I read somewhere that people do not realize they are gaining weight until two weeks after the fact. Do you know how terrible that is? A lot can happen in two weeks! Essentially, what I'm telling the OP to do is not "hate themselves" but to simply be aware of what they actually are. If everyone walked around thinking "I'm fine, I look good." without critiquing themselves every so often, they'd never change. You are the only voice that can tell yourself to do something and if "you" are the one calling yourself a fat ass and telling yourself to lose weight, it's going to work. Pretty much, by doing this, you gain an outside viewpoint of yourself within yourself. You're no longer JUST yourself, you're everyone else too. Because what everyone else sees is what you just might refuse to see.

That's a good thing. If you're 6'2 and only weighed 130, you were bordering on anorexic there. You do realize there is such a thing as too thin, and that it's just as unhealthy as being overweight, right?

You also get totally depressed because you aren't and never will be what you want to.
Sure it's horrible not realising you're gaining weight, but you're just going to gain more if you give yourself reasons to hate yourself.

Hasn't happened to me.

Plus, I don't hate myself, I am aware that I am actually a pretty good looking a guy. It's just, I became a good looking guy by always keep that weight of judgement over myself. People won't help you, you can only help yourself.
