Fast travel causes freeze - no longer go near that area

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 10:26 am

I am having a major problem with the Xbox freezing.
it seems to be linked to when you finish a particular quest, and then try and fast travel to collect the reward
I cant remember the name of the quest but there is one where you have to climb 7000 steps to i think its called high holgarth.
this i did and I even went inside and learn't the shouts etc and then once back outside tried to fast travel to a NPC to collect the reward for depositig ther bag in the chest..
The game froze on the laoding screen trying to lad the fast travel destination??

Now its done it again on a different area.

On doing the quest to kill a frost dragon at elder somethign or other, did that and tried to fast travel back to Morthal it froze again

BUT that is not the problem, well it is obvioulsy, but the link is this.

Once you have had a failed fast travel causing a game freeze, you cannot even walk to that area ever again
The game immediately freezes again once you approach. There seems to be en ever so slight flash /. glitch and then a few more steps and the whole xbox locks up.

The game is now unplayable.

I know there are always problems with Bethsift games, Oblivion, and fakllout i had major problems until the fixes came when i eventually finished them both

i also know i am not alone, as on many unofficial forums "Skyrim" freezing is a major problem, but i would rathe rot stick to the offical forum and hope for a reasoned and objective reply.
PS: Clearing xbox cache and downloading update has had no effect.~

Out of 26 games only 3 freeze the xbox. Oblivion, Fallout new vegas and skyrim.

This i think is NOT a coincidence.

I'd swear I posted a reply here that just disappeared...

Anyway.

When you fast travel, does the load screen actually freeze and crash, or does it keep loading forever?

This sounds very similar to the unreachable Riften bug me and others reported before. It's impossible to fast travel to the location, and when you try approaching it, the game eventually freezes at a certain distance.

I had this happen in Oblivion.... Clear your cache. Try again. If it crashes, just go there the slow method to reset whatever coordinate seed it uses. Then fast travel back to where you were.

Go to a previous save and try it.

He's saying that the game freezes when you try to walk to the area. It's the same problem that happened to me in Riften. Nothing fixes it.

The only thing one can do is use a previous save, if you have one. It's a VERY SERIOUS bug, especially if, as it seems, can happen anywhere. So far I've been assuming it was only Riften because of the town reputation when it comes to bugs. But then I saw this post and realized the magnitude of the problem.

From now on I'm keeping a at least one save of my last three character levels just in case sh*t like this happens again, because it can ruin your entire game.

Hi Guys, Just to clarify. I am not talking about random freezes. It is more the fact that the FREEZE POINT is tied in with the quest and it is the location of the reward that causes the lock up.

1.) Do the quest - quest successful - save (i always do)
2.) Try and fast travel to reward and loading screen freezes xbox. Nothing works. the whole box is knackered. Background smoke on loading screen freezes,
3.) hard re-boot , play skyrim, load last save ( the successful quest) no problem.
4.) fast travel anywhere but reward locatiion- OK
5) attempts to fast travel or walk from ANY point on the map, ( by wallking somehere else or fast travellign somehwere else first) to collect the reward and it freezes IN-GAME

Cache cleard - save file only 10Mb. only have 2 save files at anytime and 230Gb of free space

This is fallout type glitches and is not right. Its the same structural problem and should have been re-written for elder V

Still similar to what happened to me in Riften. The only difference seems to be that when I fast traveled, the loading screen wouldn't freeze in a traditional way, it would just keep loading forever.

It is certainly not a random freeze, but in my case, I didn't have any active quest in Riften or anything. If you ask me, it's probably linked to the location and not a quest. A random event was probably going to take place in Ivarstead, or High Rorthgar (does the freeze happen at the bottom of the seven thousand steps or at the top?), and that's causing the game to freeze each time it tries to trigger it.

Well 1.4 is installed and guess what. Not a single difference in my problem. namely, the areas that froze on laoding prior to 1.4 ARE STILL INACCESSIBLE. Ivarstead, Morthal and the botton of the steps at Holgarth all now lock up as before whether walking or fast travelling

Did get an emial form support with a suggestion about buying a flash drive downloading some files, transfering to xbox, wiping save file , reloading !!! I dont get it. If i was this techy I would have bought the PC version.

so there you have it. £50 gone, level 56, attained and i cant play the game.

So what am i going to do.
Well i already done it. I took the game back to the shop, they refused to accept it due to the length of time i had it ( expecetd ) and so i have instigated legal action against he store. ( You see i am a 46 year faiirly wealthy businessman with court experience many times, not the typical customer base i would assume)
Under UK law goods not fit for purpose have a right to be returned uop to 12 months after purchase if one can prove they shoudl still be working after that time.

In the meantime as this is my only game for xbox , (yes i kow not typicl again), i intend to fed-ex the x-box and the game from here in the UK to Beshseda. Tthere they can fix it, look at it, or use is for target practice for all i care.

Yes, if you were having the issue before, 1.4 won't retroactively fix it. It happened to me as well.

I loaded an older save from before I got the bug and my problem disappeared. I was able to enter the area that wouldn't load before. However, like I said, that was before I got the bug, so who knows if 1.4 did anything at all. Maybe the bug just didn't happen for whatever new series of cause/effect.

I've never had lockups on my xbox except in this game. That is to say, I've never had lockups which were
not ONLY caused by marathon playing sessions.

For example, other games I have might lock up once a night after I've been playing the xbox for like 10 hours straight.

Meanwhile, this game never has a CHANCE to lock up only from that; I seem to remember it doing that when I was playing
at lower levels, but since getting much higher and having default save files of 20 meg it never has a CHANCE for that to happen.

This is the only game I've played where just trying to zone into the same place, like the dark brotherhood sanctuary by dawnstar,
the palace in whiterun, the palace in markarth, various overland caves and crypts, certain areas overland in the vicinity of nimroot spawns,
trying to leave the companions guild, trying to enter my house in markarth (with my stuff =( ), ALWAYS give me a hard system lock
which mimics the problem I might have in other games after playing for 10 hours.

I can't remember having any with a quest reward in particular, except that now if I get a random "kill the bandits then report to the
palace in Markarth" quest, which I can actually COMPLETE (as in, the bandit leader is not MISSING), I can't enter the palace
to turn it in... lols.

---------------------------

I do not believe 1.4 fixed any of the hard locking. It seemed to only fix a few bugs, in the patch notes. We may NEVER see a fix for this problem.
I don't see how we could buy expansions without one, but there you go.

If, by doing all main and side quests and redoing several of the 344 locations several times, we get default save game file saves of 20 meg NOW:

How much more likely would that be to happen with an EXPANSION, with a lot more content?

Unless they change the fundamental way the game saves/loads/cleans up the world, gets rid of nimroot glow stacking, etc, it
is simply not going to work.
