Fast Travel Fights after new 1.5 patch

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 9:10 am

Does any one else have this problem?

After downloading the 1.5 patch every time I fast travel after the loading screen there are about 30 random NPC having a fight (from spiders, wolves, draugr, bandits.giants) this causes the game to crash often, at first it was cool to see the dust up but now I would like to play the game but I cant as EVERY time a travel the fights begin and the game crashes, some times I cant even get past the loading screen and am left listening the battle.

Any one having the same problem, or got any ideas on how to fix it with out deleting the saved data ?

Cheers

This seems like a pretty serious issue that may only be resolved by deleting the saved data :/
One thing is maybe try clearing your cache data from your HDD, but in all honesty this is pretty severe.
Did this start to happen only after the 1.5 update? Things like this are really hard to fix on a console without and sort of Dev console to use.
I decided to start a new game with 1.5 and so far have not noticed anything strange. But I could try and play my old file and see if something similar to this will happen. Although, it could be anything at this point that could of caused this problem.

Are you a conjuror? I've had this happen to me the first time i fast traveled after the patch. I read on another thread that is has to do with them fixing the thrall bug. The mob of people fighting are all the people you raised or thralled in the past. So far it only happened once for me, but I read that it can happen multiple times. For now I just would not fast travel to anywhere there might be someone you dont want to die might be, and run to towns.

I am also getting this with my thief/conjurer it doesn't happen all the time just now and again. I have just got the dead thrall spell and haven't used it that much that might explain why I am only getting 2 to 3 mobs spawning. I have also noticed that since the patch I have had around 4 frost dragons die but not give up their soul, if I leave the area and go back the corpses have gone. Oh and the atomic nirnroot seem to be glowing like a small sun I really wish they could just remove the glow all together.

Clearing the cache does NOT fix the issue. It seems that you get that problem when you used the Dread Zombie spell. And fix is quite "easy": delete all saves and start a new character (yes I know that's not you want to hear but that's how Bethesda patches seem to work: Repair some things, break another and there you go happy customers *irony*).

I started having this problem on my PC after 1.4. I play on Xbox too, and I've been crossing my fingers that it will stay away from my console. I don't use fast travel on any of my characters, but the bug also shows up when a carriage is hired, or if I'm arrested - whether I pay my fine or get taken to jail, the game counts the change of location as a "fast travel".

So far, I haven't experienced the issue on the console, though the character I play on Xbox is not a conjuror- one of my PC characters is, though she did not have Dead Thrall (my theory is that the mobs that show up on fast travel are reanimated mobs that have "disappeared" while going through load screens- I have had plenty of those).

I can only hope that as more people experience this issue, it will get some more attention from the devs.

Until then, see if going into an empty cell (like a house) and waiting 73 in-game hours will clear the scripts. Though it didn't work for me (and I even waited as long as 31 in-game days), maybe it will be different on console. If that doesn't work, then try playing without fast travel.

In response to my fear of this issue, I moved the 1.4 TU file to a memory stick, pulled the stick out of the Xbox, then I allowed Skyrim to update to 1.5. So I have the 1.4 TU in reserve, should I decide to backpedal to it. Turned out I didn't need to do that after all. My 350+ hour, Level 54 character can fast travel all over the place without any new problems. I guess it's true that the issue is related to raising the dead with conjuration magic. Now, I conjured atronachs like crazy for weeks and weeks, so those clearly don't figure into the problem. I did raise a zombie once to try it out, but I decided I didn't like the idea of needing dead bodies lying around to do my conjuring. Lucky, I guess.

Luckily, I haven't had this problem. But I have seen many other people with this issue so you aren't the only ones. A thread was created on this subject the other day and I'm sure somebody mentioned that there was a glitch in the 1.5 update which caused certain NPC's respawn points become tied to your character. So when you fast travel they all spawn next to you and they fight each other.

Although, don't trust me on this because it's just what I remember some other poster saying the other day and I'm no techie on this game so I'm not the expert :P
