Fast Travel: Ragged Flagon

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:59 am

So I decided to make the Thieve's Guild quests where you have to run errands for the Guild in order to get the Trophy/Achievement. It took me about an hour or so to complete Whiterun only. Why's that? Because I waste my time in constant loading screens.

Each Loading Screen lasts for about 30 seconds (on PlayStation3 that is):

1) Fast Travel to Riften: Loading screen...
2) Enter the Thieve's Guild via the tomb: Loading Screen...
3) Enter the Ragged Flagon: Loading Screen...
4) Take the quest, go back to the Thieve's Guild's main room: Loading Screen...
5) Climb the ladder back to the tomb outside to go back to Riften: Loading Screen...
6) Fast Travel to the Quest's location: Loading Screen...
7) Enter the building in which you have to steal the object or find the book: Loading Screen...
8) Get out of the building once it is done: Loading Screen...
9) Fast Travel back to Riften to turn the Quest in: Loading Screen...

That's almost 5 minutes of Loading Screens just to complete ONE Quest, which takes less than 30 seconds to complete. You have to do it 5 times to the same city before being able to ge the final Quest and own the Hold. There are 4 Holds to control.

Quick maths:

* 6 Quests x 4 Holds = 24 Quests Total
* 24 Quests x 4.5 Minutes in Loading Screens per Quest = 108 Minutes lost in Loading Screens for approximately 7 minutes of active Questing!

Bottom line: PLEASE, ALLOW FAST TRAVELS DIRECTLY TO/FROM THE RAGGED FLAGON!!!! :wallbash:

I quite agree, it's pretty annoying to go through three loading screens just to use the TG merchants.

Stop fast traeling and then time spent getting to where your goen balances out the load time, I find doing this makes me forget about the load screnes. You load out - quest to your destination for 30min or so - load in to your destination - leave the same way you came in and enjoy the walk. By doing what you described, you end up getting board but throw some adventure in-between your tasks destinations and you end up enjoying the view.

If those quests were meant to be quick, they'd send you into Riften every single time.

Change all the "have to"s to "get to"s and your attitude will improve.

The quests are actually pretty quick by themselves - about 20-30 seconds each like I mentioned. What takes time is staring at the same damn warewolf over and over and reading the Black Brotherhood prayer for the tenth time in a row while all you want to do is to move from a room to another (why didn't they just put a wall between both rooms in the Thieve's Guild anyway!? It could be TWO separate rooms, seperate by a hallway! lol).

But yes, as Zydrate ans Carrots said, I could simply enjoy a ride by foot and take my time... but I took my time already for more than 300 hours already: all I want now is my [censored] Trophy!

That being said: you're right guys. I just think it is annoying (for me).

I'm not saying NO FAST TRAVEL, just tone it down a bit.Yes those 108mins are still being used up for load time but the little quest in-between distracts you from that.Where as your situation you end up frustrared cause of wait time.

Like I said, I think you guys are right. But since they created Fast Travel which leads in the middle of a temple you only use once in the game (Main Quest where you have to find a wall), they could have thought of the same for the Ragged Flagon - where, you know, there are Quest Givers and a Fence!

Turn off the Autosave features and the loading times will diminish.

Turn off the Autosave features and the loading times will diminish.

It cut down the loading times by half when zoning from inside to outdoor, and even faster during transition from outdoor to indoor (about 10 seconds), so yep, that's a HUGE improvement!! Thanks!

(*grumble* ...I still think we should be able to fast travel from the Ragged Flagon. lol)

Must.Resist.Self.Promoting

Turning off the autosave will also make the vanilla menu a little less slow, too. The only problem then is just remembering to save.

It's people like you who gave us the monstrosity that is Fast Travel in the first place.

Terribly sorry you can't complete the game in 5 minutes.

Personally, I wish that fast travel actually took you into the places you selected (e.g., if you fast travel to the Thieves Guild, it should load you into the Thieves Guild, not outside of it).
