I'm liking Dawnstar, but I've never tried the other one. Already did Falkreath.

Windstad is nice despite being in the northern marsh area of Skyrim. It has a central location between Morthal, Dawnstar, and Solitude, and it has a fish hatchery that is great for getting slaughterfish scales for your wall mounts. If your character is dark/evil definitely go with the Morthal homestead. Moreover, my character is for the federalistic imperials so it feels nice to be near the imperial stronghold city, Solitude.
