Favorite smells:
Tomato plants, vanilla, the clean, salty air on an abandoned beach. The back of a man's neck as he is sleeping next to me. Orange peel. The top of a baby's head, fresh from the bath. Bread baking. When a man mows the lawn, and he comes up all sweaty. it's a cocktail of pheromes, fresh cut grass, and oil/gas mix. The scent of pine needles and green growing things after it has rained, Freshly turned, slightly damp, loamy soil. Books, old, dusty, page turning, leather bound, books. Kittens and puppies. Cinnamon. Pot roast. My husband's hookah on the back patio. Aromas can be powerful indeed.
I opened a book the other day, and it smelled of an old lover's apartment, slightly musty, his cologne, the damn green carpet, the taste of spiced tea. It hurt so tremendously that my stomach tied itself in knots, and I felt physical pain. I put the book back on the shelf, I could not throw it away.
Scents I dislike:
Soiled undergarments/diapers. Heavy cologne/perfume. Bodily excretions, be they in facilites, or in public. Asphalt in the hot, baking summer sun. Car exhaust. Turpentine. Funeral flowers. Burnt popcorn. Stale cigarettes. Funky, filthy cars. I once drove by a strip bar that was being remodled, and we literally gagged. It smelled of stank bodies, old smoke, and unhappiness. That had to be the worst smell ever.
