Favourite Smells and Worst Whiffs!

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 7:14 am

We all know that there are some smells we all love and some that we all hate, however I was just wondering (since I couldn't find a previous topic fitting this description) what the users of the Bethesda forums liked and disliked the smell of.

A list a few of my favourite smells would include, although some of you are bound to disagree:

Petrol (gas)
Marker Pens
Bacon
Freshly cut grass
and lets be honest with each other... my own brand of farts.... :D

What are yours?

I love the smell of grass as well.

I also love the smell of vanilla and pineapple and just good old fresh air (does that even have a smell?)

I HATE the smell of cigarettes and alcohol.... especially cigarettes

Nothing beats your own gas. No one agrees with me though, they all run away.

Like: Petrol, Own farts, Candyfloss, Cadbury chocolate, Irn-Bru, Southern Fried Chicken, KFC, McDonalds, Chippies, Home Made soup, Bananas, Fire smoke, my sweat - Damn all this food talk has made me hungry.

Hate: cigerette smoke, my father's farts, cigerette smoke, drug smoke, spilt booze on buses, unflushed poo, my snakes tank, my rabbits hutch, fried onions and cigerette smoke

I hate smokers at my bus stop, especially when they walk by you just to stand up wind :verymad:

Edit: wet cut grass and whiskey smells good too

Like: my sweat

What... haha that's a bit odd. I reek when I sweat.
Smoke isn't the nicest thing in the world, but I actually don't mind the smell of cannabis.

I have no idea why apparently mine smells nice - nice as in not bad but not candyfloss nice - according to some old girlfriends >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_odor_and_subconscious_human_sixual_attraction
I've just noticed my comment is full of censored words  I used the F word for gays in the US as the UK version meaning cigerette - guess I'll go back and change it....
Cannabis smoke is not appealing when you're on your way home and the bus ends up with two junkies up the back smoking it constant or sniffing glue

Candyfloss....

Ohh I don't like the smell of Coffee or bad breath either.

Freshly ground coffee is one of my favourites. And while I'm listing stereotypically nice smells, baking bread and cut grass are also really rather nice.

The list of smells I don't like also contains few surprises: drains, rotting food, people with an aversion to soap, that sort of thing. Oh, and Vauxhall cars, whose smell often gives me a headache.

Some of mine:
  • Coffee, even though it tastes like armpit sweat
  • Petrol, indeed.
  • Permanent marker
  • Freshly washed sheets
  • My hands when I've been cutting onions (I know, weird)
  • Rain on concrete, or in a forest

Most icky:
  • Bad breath
  • Other bodily odours
  • Soiled baby diaper
  • Ginger and corianer (cilantro) - I don't get how anyone likes that crap, it smells and tastes of soap!

Favorite smells:
- Caramel
- Chocolate
- Strawberry Products
- Freshly Baked Bread of any kind, especially with cheese on top like pizza or grilled sandwiches.
- Leek.

Worst smells:
- Smoke, this really takes the top, disgusting.
- Other peoples bodily smells.
- Exotic wet cheese like those evil kinds of cheese you find cut into cubes in little glass jars...
- Rohugh's fur in the rain.
- Onion and garlic of any kind.
- People who've put too much perfume or cologne on themselves.
- Puke.

Just numbering a few of my favorite and least favorite smells. If I mentioned all then the list would be too long.

Ahh, I forgot freshly baked bread and some forms of rain.
It's weird how rain can sometimes smell so good, wonder why... ^_^

Ohh I don't like nor hate the smell of the little pine-like trees people have in their gardens. But they have a distinctive pong.

Bah, philistine!

Interesting how many people like the smell of petrol. I also used to like it as a kid and wondered why they didn't make "petrol perfume". I seem to have gone off it as I've got older, though: maybe unleaded doesn't smell as good as four-star.

A friend of mine used to have the smelliest dogs imaginable. I have no idea what they used to get up to in order to produce such a foul odour, but it was disgusting. And that's before they started farting. They were very sweet, it's just a shame that they didn't smell very sweet.

Favorite smells:
Tomato plants, vanilla, the clean, salty air on an abandoned beach. The back of a man's neck as he is sleeping next to me. Orange peel. The top of a baby's head, fresh from the bath. Bread baking. When a man mows the lawn, and he comes up all sweaty. it's a cocktail of pheromes, fresh cut grass, and oil/gas mix. The scent of pine needles and green growing things after it has rained, Freshly turned, slightly damp, loamy soil. Books, old, dusty, page turning, leather bound, books. Kittens and puppies. Cinnamon. Pot roast. My husband's hookah on the back patio. Aromas can be powerful indeed.
I opened a book the other day, and it smelled of an old lover's apartment, slightly musty, his cologne, the damn green carpet, the taste of spiced tea. It hurt so tremendously that my stomach tied itself in knots, and I felt physical pain. I put the book back on the shelf, I could not throw it away.

Scents I dislike:
Soiled undergarments/diapers. Heavy cologne/perfume. Bodily excretions, be they in facilites, or in public. Asphalt in the hot, baking summer sun. Car exhaust. Turpentine. Funeral flowers. Burnt popcorn. Stale cigarettes. Funky, filthy cars. I once drove by a strip bar that was being remodled, and we literally gagged. It smelled of stank bodies, old smoke, and unhappiness. That had to be the worst smell ever.

Burning wood is my favorite. Also any kind of fruity smell, strawberry, apple, etc..

I absolutely hate the smell of perfume and cologne. I don't know how people can stand it and I don't understand why so many feel the need to bathe in the stuff.

I also hate the smell of industrial cleaners. I once nearly had my lungs fried when someone decided to mix bleach with lime-away so that's probably more psychological but I hate it either way. I always feel the need to hold my breath when walking down the chemicals aisle in supermarkets.

I was always under the assumption that tea was for sophisticated people whereas coffee was the pedestrian beverage?

No. Lots of people drive while drinking coffee. Beer would be more of a pedestrian beverage.
