Feedback: In-home stealing glitchproblem, please address

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 1:15 pm

I hadn't seen a topic on this yet...

From time to time, when I enter one of my newly purchased Hearthfire homes, and I approach an item, in order to add it to my inventory, the said item will appear in red-colored text. Also, instead of it sayng, "Take (item)", it will say "Steal (item)". (Item) being whatever I am looking at. This causes a problem when my steward is nearby because, if I choose to pick up an item that says "Steal", they will consider me hostile.

Please fix.

Yeah, it keeps happening to me. When in th presence of my steward, if I pick up an item that was previously placed somewhere inside my home, that was a stolen item from another random location, the steward accuses me of stealing. Beth: I can help you if you need help replicating the issue so you can see what I mean.

I haven't had that problem, but my steward HAS spoken to me like she's suspicious of me doing something bad. Essentially "I'm keeping my eye on you" dialogue when I walk by her.

Edit:
This steward is Lydia, for reference.

Further Edit:
She just asked "Are you lost?"
"No, ***** - it's my home and you're here because I told you to be."

Beth seems to be pretty good at addressing issues like this, so hopefully this gets to the right person so it can be fixed. BTW, are there any Bethesda employees who have read this thread and are planning to address it?

That is not a glitch you thief! Go get your stolen treasures cleared before placing them anywhere.

even in my own home? In the presence of the people sworn to protect me? Heck, even when I accidentally change into vampire form in front of tmy followers, they don't attempt to attak me or become hostile. They just say "how can I help you my thane?"

BTW...how do you get your stolen treasures cleared? You are right, though, I am a thief.

If you are with the thieves guild, you can clear most items by selling them to a fence and then buying them back. You can clear all stolen tags on even the difficult items (like the stallion's potion) by using a follower and a barrel up in Dragonsreach, but I have forgotten which barrel, most likely it was the one to the left when you get down the bottom of the kitchen stairs. Just put your stolen goodies in the barrel and get your follower to take them from the barrel.

All your housecarl's are like guards, you commit any crime in front of them you will be in trouble. One of my housecarls said he would turn a blind eye once to often! He next found himself packed off to the Blades. It was shortly after that I finally found out about the Dragonsreach barrel trick and got the the stolen tag on the Stallion's potion and Dawnstar stuff cleared. And each time you pick up a stolen item, even in your own home, it goes on your stats as another item stolen. I did a lot of stealing trying to get the Stallion's potion on display.

Sounds like this, also if you use the ask follower to empty containers tricks the items can be flagged stolen. Sell item to an fence and buy it back.

Good tips about the barrel but is this only one barrel? Either it has an feature/bug or its apply to other containers. How about containers in your house?
I expect items in an containers in owned houses would be tagged as stolen as it appear that items inherit the container ownership then the follower clear it.

It is as far as I know, the only magical stolen tag clearing barrel in Skyrim. Someone with a lot more knowledge would have to explain why that is so.
