I Feel Awful...

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 3:11 am

I was in Dawnstar today, I wanted to buy land and get some new DB targets but as I was walking to the longhouse there was a little kid, I forgot his name but he was an orphan with a sad story. I had never noticed him before so I researched him and sure enough, he was new for hearthfire as a potential child.

I didn't know that the streets of Skyrim were now riddled with begging children, I had already picked up a couple kids from the orphanage but I would've adopted them if I knew about them.

Is their anyway I can pay for their journey to Riften to go to the Orphanage and live their, ever since that masked assassin murdered Grelod the place has been in good hands. There are free beds due to me. It would just svck to see Orphans everywhere.

Nope.

The new beggar kids were scripted to tug at your heart-strings. Just ignore them.

There are four of those orphaned kids in the game; one in Whiterun, one in Windhelm, one in Dawnstar and one at the stable outside Solitude. You have to pick two out of them or the kids at the orphanage to adopt.

Some would say I've got 9 houses and about 1 in 15 Skyrim citizens would be happy to follow me to their death.

This won't help, but Alesan's the lowest priority of the four. He has a job, and according to him, he has warmth and shelter as well. In a realistic world, I would give him a better than 50% chance of surviving to young manhood.

On the other hand, there's Lucia. She'a an Imperial (no cold resistance), she has no home or source of income other than begging, and she sleeps out in the street. In a realistic world, the only question would be whether she'll die of hypothermia or pneumonia.

I have a huge house with 3 bedrooms. I wish the game would let me adopt all 4 street kids. I hate seeing them beg in the streets.

Really? Like, Really? No, I mean ... really?

Don't misunderstand me. I enjoy a couple of hours of good RP as much the next Khajiit-transplaneted-to-Riften. But really? I mean, I adopted her right? Took her off the streets of Windhelm to a manor with an entire bedroom wing. Ignored the hostile stares of the Stormcloaks while I did it, not that they were doing anything to make her life even the slightest bit easier.

And what do I get?

"Can I have an allowance?"

"Eggh? What?"

"Can I have an allowance?"

"Uh, okay. Here's a few septims."

[A few days pass.]

"Can I have an allowance?"

"Again? Fine. Here's 1000 septims. That should hold you for awhile."

"You're the best!"

[A few days pass. I return from a long day of fighting Falmer.]

"Hey, what did you bring me?"

"Eggh? What's that?"

"What did you bring me?"

"Uh, let me see. I have sixteen Falmer ears, a number of crushed and dead mushrooms, and something that looks and smells extremely disturbing."

"Aw, don't tease me."

"Tease you? Why you little -- "

[Another two weeks pass. More Falmer die. Meanwhile, back the manor . . .]

"You're back! What did you bring me?"

"What? Again with this?"

"What did you bring me?"

"Um, okay. Here's a deadly enchanted bow and some arrows. Don't shoot the cow."

[Another two weeks pass. More Falmer die. So does the cow. I return from yet another life-threatening-gaming experience.]

"Can I have an allowance?"

********

Yes, sir, may I have another . . .

A bad parent? You missed the part about me taking off the streets of Windhelm, right? Taking her from near starvation and placing her in a level of luxury beyond her wildest ten-year-old dreams? Where she has an allowance? Where she has access to a huge kitchen that makes treats for her every day. Where milk is fresh and available. Butter is a rare commodity, for reasons that escape us, but there's no shortage on baked goods. She is protected by two house carls, a steward, a carriage driver and, uh, a cured vampire.

Yet we still have exchanges like this:

Here. I thought you'd like these.

Huh? What? A green bathrobe? What's this?

It's a gift.

Did you steal this?

No . . . it's a gift.

Have you ever seen me wear a robe?

[Silence]

Why didn't you give me that insanely expensive enchanted staff you have hidden in you bedroom upstairs?

*****

Can't you just feel the love?

Maybe you humans think that you can buy love like you buy cut flowers, but Khajiit knows that love you have to give from yourself, you have to care for it like you care for a living plant.

S'vashni and Kharjo give Ma'isha their time by teaching her how to fight. Tsavani does her best to prepare nice Elsveyr meals so Ma'isha could feel like home. J'zargo and Shavari play with Ma'isha using their magic skills and teach her some magic in the process. Raksha is using all she knows about smithing to make little armor and weapons for Ma'isha, so she can train safely. And finally, we take Ma'isha on her very own little adventures, like that time when she got to dispose aggressive skeevers.

We are not rich, we don't have stewards, housecarls or carriage drivers, but what we can give seems to make Ma'isha happy and we get a lot of love from her in return. Maybe this one should try being parent Khajiit way?

Wait, wait, wait . . . this one is Khajiit, too. Kharjo is my bodyguard!

But wait . . . I think I ventured onto a solution to the problem. I think it will go something like this:

******

Hey, you're back! Did you bring me anything?

You bet! Have some skooma . . .

Whoa. This is . . . so . . . cool . . .

The best solution to this dilemma, yes I've said this before but it's still relevant, is RPing that all your characters exist in the same reality, rather than parallel ones.

The way I do it is by the following rule. No two characters may:
* Enlist the same follower
* Marry the same spouse.
* Own the same house.
* Post-HF: Employ the same steward.
* Post-HF: Adopt the same child(ren).
* Identify with the same quest (though I still do them, for purposes of leveling or entertainment).

As a result, you effectively have multiple characters wandering about the same Skyrim. Ergo, with two characters it is possible to give all four street orphans a home. And with four, you can give every adoptable child a home.

Well, in that case, Raksha thinks you don't deserve to have Khajiit kids. It's good you only have Nord kid, you fit yourselves well!

:wink:

Well, yes, Shavari. What's wrong? :smile: She is great friend, Raksha says. Not only Shavari forgave Raksha that she destroyed her life, but now Shavari gives Ma'isha so much love, like a real mother. Raksha is very glad that we all are friends now, despite hard beginning,

Shavari has nothing against Talos. But she does not like Blades spies that murder half of embassy personnel. She only tried to exact justice.

LOL I just love it how you stay in character all the time. Hmm, have you been to Elsweyr yet? I just started to play http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9782 yesterday and OMG I'm blown away. I LOVE it. You visit the jungles and deserts of Elsweyr and hahahahaha you meet a cool pirate Khajiit - SkullCat hahahahaha I'm sure you family would enjoy this trip and it would be great to show Ma'isha her homeland, no? :biggrin:

Eh... what is this thread about again? =p LOL

Oh yea, about the orphans... I adopted the Solitude stable boy yesterday, send him to my house in Solitude and then joined a caravan to Elsweyr (with my husband). So, little Blaise just has the housecarl for company right now, while his parents wander the land of Elsweyr, slaying Thalmors hahahahaha

Glad you like it, it's a lot of fun for me to stay in character :smile:

I know Moonpath, although I played it before we adopted Ma'isha. We definitely have to go there again with her this time, thanks for this great idea :smile:

Hehe, yeah, that SkullCat :smile:
