I Fell so Dirty

Post » Tue Oct 23, 2012 6:07 pm

I spent 70+ hours on my Nord and never fast traveled, until now. I had walk to the ruin that had Mjoll's sword in when suddenly, I heard a dragon. Needless to say we began to fight and I almost had it dead, when a frost troll started to attack me. Before I realized it was happening it killed me and finished of my dragon, my last save being a hour or more ago. Rage burning inside I started a spree of fast traveling to do Mjoll's quest and start to build my house. Three months of in game time had passed and I did the main questline, along with Dawnguard. However, I feel so dirty fast traveling I'm thinking of deleting him or continuing my flithy fast traveling.

You may be taking this a tad too seriously. Just saying.

It's still a game. Fast traveling is convenient, even if it is only occasionally used by you.

Fast travel if you enjoy it. Don't fast travel if you don't enjoy it. That's all that needs to be said about fast travel.

I just feel like fast traveling cheapens the experience, of Skyrim. If it wasen't for the dumb AI behavior of the horses, I'd ride a horse everywhere and not use a carriage.

Fast travel is there for convenience. I play with limited fast travel. Like going back and forth to the graybeards ...no way I'm running up and down that mountain everytime so I will fast travel to them. Otherwise I either walk or use the carriage between cities or ride my horse but I try to limit my fast travel usage as much as I can. I see no reason to delete your character. Just chalk it up to s**t happens and go on with him.

>thinking of throwing away 70 hours of gameplay, because you used a normal game feature that the developers intended to be used.

Then think of it this way: You had already fairly done this stuff on foot. So that already counts as your labor and you are free to fast travel to get back to where you would be now, had you not died cheaply.

Just remember not to Fast Travel next time? Save more often? Seriously, deleting a character because you fast traveled once is kinda silly.

How can you not fast travel in Skyrim? I would die if I had to spend an hour walking every time I go somewhere.

I actually spent 3 hours in Morrowind just so I could command humanoid move one of the fast travel mage's to Tel Uvirith. lol

How can you play Skyrim and fast travel? To me fast traveling kills the immersion and cheapens the experience, of the game. Though I do admit traveling to the same places over and over again, does get tiresome.

Because this:

I love exploring and wandering the countryside. I also love grabbing vast piles of loot from dungeons..... if I had to walk the whole way back and forth to my house, to empty my packs, every time I explored a dungeon? I'd have little game time left for exploring and wandering. Also, I'd probably be sick of it.

I'm not sure how you manage to not fast travel. I've tried it a bunch of times and always end up going back to fast traveling because something I need is across the map. I envy you non-fast-traveling peoples' discipline.

Here's a thread never before seen. :chaos:

Yes, my name is Raist11 and I fast travel. There's someone else who doesn't fast travel. Don't sweat it. Some people may feel bad if they use a sword instead of just their magic. Start over if it's that big of a deal to you.

I love fast travel. If I need to get somewhere, I don't want to waste my own time trudging along the plains of Whiterun and climbing over mountains. Those are things I do when I want to go find stuff to do.. not when i'm trying to get something done. I couldn't do it in Morrowind.. I had to use console cheats to fast travel or else I would've gone crazy, and I certainly can't do it in Oblivion and Skyrim.

You mentioned not having a recent save.
You may wish to consider adding a mod which will save or autosave at regular intervals to avoid this prob.

Haha, your av is awesome. Where is it from?

On Topic:

I understand the rage, but just fast-travel to repeat your steps up to the current point, as others have pointed out, you already put in the "labor".

I don't fast travel either (except the occasional carriage ride). You experience so much more M'aiq of the world when you don't.

I didn't just fast travel once, but I went on a spree of fast traveling, in order to buy materials for my house.

Does fast traveling cause your load times to increase? I know they increase the chances of random events, but I dont know about loading times. It seems to take a lot longer to load, now that I'm fast traveling and waiting.

Dude...You fast traveled. You're not sullied, you will still be able to be someones bride. You have not shamed your family name, nor dishonored your clan.
Just stop fast traveling and get over yourself.

It saves before you fast travel, I guess in case the game crashes on the loading screen.

I fast travel to cities, to do menial jobs(Buying materials) and for small quests. Why would I spend hours walking to Solitude from Markarth because I want to visit my family before taking on the next quest?

Everyone fast travels, and if someone says they don't, then it's not true.
