I am planning on buying Fallout 1,2, and Brotherhood of Steel (The pack you can buy on Steam) come christmas, when I get my new laptop. I do have a few questions regarding the game, just to make sure.

Is the story riveting? Like, is it really interesting, as compared to 3 or New Vegas? Or even better?

Is the fighting in the game decent. I know the graphics arent amazing, but you know, the battles and such, are they fun, or at least playable?

Same with story, is the characters good? D:.

Can I play it on Windows 7? Im just making sure, cause you know, some things dont work on 7, and thats what my laptop will be running on .

Uh... Is it really worth it? Ive heard some people saying it was good, or really good, or you cant be a Fallout fan unless you have played them, but whats your opinion? I know playing them now might seen.. Weird? XD. But they DID sound interesting to me.. I just want a different opinion .


My laptop is your average laptop, not hardcoe gamer-ish, nor is it crappy. 3 gb memory, 320 gb hard drive, 15 inch screen.

Anyway, I do want to play them. They do seem really interesting, and I know they are different from Fallout 3/NV. Thanks for your input (Why cant it be output D:).

First its Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steal. I am not trying to be an ass but there is a game that is called Brotherhood of Steel and its total crap.

The stories for those games are far better then Fallout 3 and easily equal to Fallout New Vegas.

Fallout and Fallout 2 are great RPG games and word of warning they don't hold your hand, like Fallout 3 and New Vegas. You will have to use your brain and rememebr things. Tactics is a Squad based Tactical game and it also has a learning curve. Advice for it, don't bother with Speech or Charisma.

The combat in Fallout and Fallout 2 are turned based, if you aren't used to that it will be a learning curve for sure. Fallout Tactics has a real time option and many that use it don't seem to like it. I love it.

To play it on modern computers with windows 7 you will need patches to play it.

They are great games, glad you are buying them. If you have any questions when you start playing them just ask and you will get help :foodndrink:

Edit: Also you will die alot in those games, don't let it discourage you.

yeah as Styles said, the originals have TONs better story and plot lines then FO3. You'll be getting much more options with how you can go about quests and such. Be warned to that these are not the same type of games as you've played with FO3 and NV. they are Iso, Turn based games. Don't let that stop you however they are really if you start to play them much much better "fallout" experiences then the current offerings.

And I know its different gameplay than FO3 and NV, main reason why I posted this thread XD. Im not well versed in turn based, but nor im a total NOOB. >_>.

Thanks for the replies anyway.. I do think I will buy them, after I look into some more gameplay and story and such. I dont like jumping feet first into things >_<. I do like to have some information on what im doing first .

your getting ti from steam you said right? you'll have all the patches already then.

Wouldn't GOG be a better place to buy from than Steam?

gog.com has them available already patched and compatible with windows 7. They also have included content that was cut from the original games, at least they have with Fallout 2. There is also stuff they patched that will not be fixed on any other version without one of the user created unofficial patches.

If you catch them on a sale at GoG you can probably pick them all up for under $10 total. With no DRM (no activation keys or anything) they are a pretty good buy if you do not mind slower paced and content rich games. They have as much if not more freedom to roam and do whatever you want as 3 and NV.

I would hold off buying any copy of Fallout 1 or 2 that has the cut content put back in. The "restoration packs/projects." Play the games as is before you do that. Fallout 2 has alot of cut content, and with it all put back in the game, it can make Fallout 2 really drag on and confusing. Best to just leave it out till you play them as is a couple of times first.
