A few questions, (non-generic)

Post » Thu Aug 29, 2013 1:28 pm

Okay, so I was just playing some Skyrim after a few months of not playing it, and I had a blast remembering how great the game is. While playing, I was comparing it to the ESO and thinking of a few questions. (I was getting pretty concerned that the game won't feel just like Skyrim does, but I'll go into detail about that later).

Questions.

> When we conjure a creature, why does it have an electric purple/blue aura? It doesn't look very 'Elder Scrollsy' to me, and I can't think why it's like that at all, really.

> How many creatures do you think we will be able to conjure in the ESO? In Skyrim we had 11 and in Oblivion we had 21, (was always my favourite in Oblivion).

> Costumes = full set, if I have a fur costume and it gives me all fur gear as a cosmetic look, will I be able to still collect fur boots, gloves and whatnot as individual pieces?

> Any word on pets? I'm thinking of something like a boar, or a wolf in WoW for example. I highly doubt it, to be honest, but hey ho.

> I'm aware on the megaserver technology and how it all works, I'm familiar with the questionnaire too, but can those who prefer to play with less players do so? Not completely solo, just not absolutely tons of people.

> Lore question. Do the Argonians frown upon conjuration (at this time or any), or any of the races at the time. Dunmer, Altmer?

> Have we heard anything about hunting? Hunting deer, elk and all the rest in Skyrim was always great fun, travelling the terrain just to kill one animal was a blast.

> Will we see stars/planets in the ESO like we see here? http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Skyrim-Stars.jpg

> Can we pick the plants, vegetation and catch butterflies? I haven't seen too much of it, but in the QuakeCon video we saw tons of flora, and none of it seemed pickable... (I did see the Nirnroot being picked in the Gathering and Exploration video, however).

Rambling about my Skyrim experience.

Okay, enough of the questions, I just wanted to ask all of these because I really can't seem to find an answer to most of these if I'm honest.

Now, I was playing Skyrim today after coming back from quite a long time, and I had a blast. In short; I left Whiterun, went to a nearby giant camp and tried to shoot down a giant from far away while sneaking, I got him and repeatedly shot him, he caught up to me and before I could sprint too far he killed me. So, I went back, shot him again, ran away to the right and get turning back to shoot him, but then I climbed a small mountain/structured ruin and shot him from above so he couldn't reach me. Then, I alerted tons of bandits in the ruin and they gave me a hard time. The giant was fighting wolves, the wolves attacked the bandits, and it was pretty chaotic on hard mode too. I killed a lot of the bandits, and then BOOM the giant got me after I heard his giant footsteps. I went back, left the giant, went round to the back, climbed down this ruin that was kinda' built into the mountain and took them all on, and the combat/overall experience of just doing all that was perfect. Afterwards, I just hunted a few deer/animals, and then climbed a mountain (getting colder) and entered a cabin which was occupied by a very powerful necromancer, of whom I killed.

Now... Is this really an experience I could imagine having in the ESO? I can't imagine it being anything quite like that, to be fair.

But, I'm going to use that exact experience as a reminder of what Skyrim really is like, and I'm going to see if I can do anything quite like that in the ESO. If not, I'll still play the game 24/7, and I'll happily wait for the next ES game from Bethesda to do that sort of thing, and if I can, well goodbye social life completely.

Open-world PvP desires.

Also, is it just me who wishes the ESO would enable this sort of scenario? http://oi42.tinypic.com/sdpuso.jpg

I'm not sure if there's any other way I could do what I'd like to detailed below other than in Cyrodiil, but, it's still fine if it's Cyrodiil only (pro-Cyrodiilic PvP here).

I'd love to just set up a bandit/reaver group like this and hold-out certain places with a small close-knit guild and wait for Aldmeri Dominion/Covenant explorers and adventurers to stumble upon our base only to get mobbed on... I know it would require open-world PvP and we've all beaten that topic to death, but I just think it's kind of a shame that all the PvP is in Cyrodiil, I mean, I know Cyrodiil is absolutely huge, but one landscape might make it feel not varied enough for me/others. Going to different terrains and zones for PvP would be more exciting, from my POV.

(I doubt we'll be able to go to the borders of Cyrodiil near the enemy factions and PvP in a different landscape). I guess I can only hope they use the megaserver technology to make it better for the open-world PvP'ers, or it comes in a future expansion.

Thanks for all the help!

so, let me see if I can get this straight ... lol .. just for the sake of clarity :)

You, want eso, to be just like skyrim? or, atleast have everything skyrim had in it, am I correct in understanding what your saying?

Well, when I think of what happened in the Skyrim play through I spoke about, I think that's the best representation of what an Elder Scrolls experience is, for me anyway.
It's an MMO, so I know it won't be exactly the same, but I'm unsure if I'll get the same experience. The combat, the chaos, the exploration. If I can get close or get the same kind of gameplay, then I'm sold completely, but I can't imagine it being pure 100% Elder Scrolls in feeling, sure they could get very close though.

The thing is though you have no idea just how cool the war in Cyrodiil will be. I played DAoC for over 5 years and it was because once you are in the war you are in a world that is almost completely controlled by what the players can accomplish. It makes each campaign different yet familiar and a ton of fun to play. I would probably still be playing DAoC if they had not come out with the Trials of Atlantis expansion and turned it into the worst gear grind I have ever seen in an MMO, yes the war in Cyrodiil should be as good and I am really hoping with todays PC power its a ton better then DAoC.

With the ability to get leveled up once you get to level 10, it will be very difficult for some players not to spend to much time in Cyrodiil and neglect leveling too much. The combat, the chaos, the strategy, the raid leaders that actually are leaders and can really make a raid successful. it will all be there in ESO and I can't wait for the war to start :D

As far as the conjuration questions i have no idea, but i would love to see a large variety of summons because i plan on creating a conjuration mage as my first character.

Yes there will be plant picking, lol.

i know that zenimax has tried to make the combat as much like skyrim as possible so i would imagine that you could run into some memorable chaotic situations with monsters and bandits and whatever else Tamriel has to throw at you.

also about your question regarding the megaserver, if you have watched the quakecon footage it seemed like the player was on his own until he decided to join his group of friends so it seems like you have the option of playing solo, small group, or totally public (not 100% sure about that though)
