Field Salvage Kit Mod

Status: Alpha

Description
This mod is intended to give the player the option to repair his weapon and armor items with the Field Salvage Kit and recycle various items from the wasteland.
I personally think that repair in vanilla FONV is broken. I don't like the old system of banging two weapons/armors together and receiver one better. Also i think the idea with the repair kits is quite bad, because you can use a cheap kit for repairing a weapon worth multiple thousands of caps. I think it would be more real to take weapons and armors apart and use the parts from them to repair your weapon/armor.
The option for recycling is also a thing which could be improved in vanilla FONV. The recipes for breaking down ammunition are a good step but far from satisfying for me. Also i'm a bit lazy when it comes to recycling, so i don't want to break each sort of ammo seperately down. Better toss them alltogether into a recycler and the recycler makes the rest of the work.

This are my basic ideas at the time, maybe there will be changes in the future. Feel free to comment on the features, make suggestions for new one, say what you like/don't like.

- The http://img824.imageshack.us/i/thekit.jpg/, have to make a new model + texture but have no plan atm.
- The http://img607.imageshack.us/i/mainmenu.jpg/. Pretty selfexplaining i think.
- The http://img593.imageshack.us/i/containert.jpg/. Put stuff in it and recycle it.
- The http://img577.imageshack.us/i/repairmenu.jpg/. Very simple but all what you need.
- The http://img809.imageshack.us/i/repairmenu2.jpg/. After selecting an item you can start to repair.
- A http://img87.imageshack.us/i/repairerror.jpg/. Selfexplaining.
- The armor repair menu shows only the location in which you carry armor items for repair selection, so you have http://img28.imageshack.us/i/repairarmor.jpg/ or http://img442.imageshack.us/i/repairarmor2h.jpg/ options for repair, depending how much armor items you wear.
- The kit is unusable while saluaging, you get a http://img141.imageshack.us/i/salvagedone.jpg/ when the salvage is done.

Work is going on, searching a little problem in the code but it is definitely improving.

I'm a bit hardcoe on this, myself, but my ideal for Repair as a gameplay function would include this.

Damaged weapons use the meshes/textures with obvious problems...mostly vanilla (like the hunting rifle with the damaged stock, the rusty caravan shotgun, etc.)
Weapons repaired to full would switch to clean textures (these would need to be modder provided resources).
Using a Weapon Repair Kit on a weapon would cause it to switch to the set of textures with the duct tape on the weapon, etc.
Using a WRK or the Jury-Rigging perk would decrease the base efficiency and durability of the weapon. Repairing with parts from an identical weapon would reverse this.
Weapons/armor could be field stripped to retrieve useful parts while abandoning things like the stock and barrel to save weight. Player's choice what to abandon.

Replacing textures on the fly seems to be quite impossible at the moment. The idea is nice but i think this can not be realised with the old game engine.

Using a WRK or the Jury-Rigging perk would decrease the base efficiency and durability of the weapon. Repairing with parts from an identical weapon would reverse this.

May be quite interesting but i think repair always requires appropriate parts.

Weapons/armor could be field stripped to retrieve useful parts while abandoning things like the stock and barrel to save weight. Player's choice what to abandon.

Thats the basic idea for this mod, salvage useful parts from weapons and either recycle the destroyed parts or throw them away. At the moment i favor the recycling of unusable parts but i think i will make an option to keep them or throw them away.

Update
Recycling works now for most projectile weapons, adding the rest of the weapons will be quite easy. The system is pretty flexible so it would also be easy to use it for the recycling of armor. Another good thing is that also weapons from other mod can be easily integrated since the system uses formlist which can be expanded.

Mr. J

Update

Recycling for armor has been implemented, currently it recycles only raider armor but adding more will be quite simple.
Aiming for armor repair as my next goal.

Update

- Repair for Armor now also works, was a little bit complicated but works not.
- A few words regarding the performance of the kit: it currently deconstructs roughly 1000 different items (a different item is a weapon, a armor or any amount of a other item) in 5 seconds, at 2500 items my computer makes a stutter for a 1-2 secs, at 200.000 items the game was apparently frozen.

Hope it explains the mod a little bit better for you.

Update

All vanilla weapons are now in the Lists and can be repaired and disassembled.

Side question: how much interest is there for this mod? Am i making it only for myself or does anyone want to see it?
