Filling Grand Soul Gems

Post » Tue Aug 07, 2012 2:06 pm

Ok. I have the book, and it tells me that you may fill a Grand Soul Gem if the "creature" is above level 38.

Black Soul Gems in particular say "Fills with any Human soul"

Now my question. Mammoths are creatures, and they are exactly level 38.

Dragons are immune to Soul Trap spells or enchantments.

So, what is a sure-fire creature that will fill a Grand Soul Gem? I'm confused.

Excellent. Thank you for answering my question so hastily.

I'm sure you have filled a grand soul gem on a giant before? They are only level 32. As long as it works, that's what matters.

can't you drop a soul gem on the ground and pick it back up and the soul will be gone? Like if you want a Grand Soul Gem to have a Grand soul but you only got a common soul in it. Then I think you can drop it on the ground and pick it back up and it'll be empty again. You could try this with a giant to make sure or the mammoth.

Giants are Greater Souls. Mammoths are the only ones that I know are Grand Souls.

Ok so the Mammoths do indeed work? I appreciate the info. I never have been able to take on a group of Mammoths by myself yet, so I've never been able to do any practical research on it. Thanks again.

Yep, the Mammoth is a Grand Soul. I double checked on the USEP. That is the only nonhuman Grand Soul that I know of. Maybe someone else can come up with another.

EDIT :
Draugr death lords and above have grand souls
Death Lords are Greater Souls

EDIT 2 : Draugr Death Overlords are Grand Souls

Mammoths are the easiest to use to fill grand soul gems, unless you have the black star...."easiest" being relative of course :)

I won't kill a Mammoth, but have filled hundreds of Grand Soul gems with Falmer Shadowmasters and Draugrs.

Yea, Mammoths are a sure fire and plenty of them. Actually, it's like shooting fish in a Bucket.

Im fairly sure this doesn't work. Otherwise you would never find filled gems in ruins or stores.

It used to work...unless it was changed in patch 1.6/1.7

It works, but not for every gem. It has something to do with the soul in the gem and the cost, or something. This only happens sometimes and it can also happen when they are placed in containers.

By the way, I tried dropping a Great Soul Gem on the floor and it didn't do anything. If there is a way to reset a wrongly filled soul gem though, I would be very interested in learning how to do that.

It only works with gems you filled. Gems you fin not so much. It's probably an intentional feature so that you can remove inferiour souls. J/s.

Only factour is whether you filled it or found it last I checked.

Sort by soul size and look for the grands. Voila.

EDIT: In addition, here is a list of everything that CAN be a Grand soul, but you must be of the appropriate level yourself. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Category:Skyrim-Souls-Grand

It has to be one you filled yourself.
