Finally, new AMD FX (AM3+) Processor release date info!

Post » Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:14 pm

Not sure how many AMD fans there are in here besides me.. but for anyone else that already has an AM3+ motherboard like me, and/or is ready to upgrade to AM3+, count on "late Aug 2011 to mid Sept 2011", this has been released by (2) seperate websites, one stating between week 37 or week 38 of 2011, which is mid september, another gave a date of Sept 13th and said it may even be as early as the end of Aug 2011. Regardless, it's not to far away!

The best news of all though, the "price" .. AMD's top AM3+ FX-8150P 8 Core processor will be clocked @ 3.6 ghz, with Turbo Core boosts up to 4.2 ghz, 8 mb of L2 cache, 8 mb of L3 cache, and will cost $269.00! That is awsome! AMD will also release 3 other processors with this one, another 8 core called the FX-8100 which has simular specs, but lower clocks @ 2.8 ghz w/ turbo core up to 3.7 ghz, all the other specs are the same. Then they will release a 6 core and 4 core as well.

Intel will be releasing some new processors too, around Oct 2011. The i7-3960X (Extreme Edition) @ 3.30 ghz with turbo boost up to 3.90 ghz, sad thing is the "price" >> $999.00! Yikes? First, I think these new AM3+ processors will run pretty much neck and neck with the new Intel processors, regardless, I would rather spend $269.00 on AMD's top processor and still have $730.00 left to buy other stuff, with the remaining money you could get a nice SSD drive, nice graphics card, and still have some left to spend.

Anyway.. just a heads up on some new goodies on the way!

Hey I havent followed it recently but did they determine if you can use the existing am3 boards with the up n coming am3+ chips. I have a CHIV formula and would love to be able to use it. On ocn some were saying yes and no and one of the cpu pins is blank etc etc. I kinda wrote off amd lately since there hasnt been any new news. Im always a fan of which ever camp has the best and cheapest...

I still doubt AMD's new processors will live up to the hype, they'll probably be just as fast as sandybridge or maybe a little faster I reckon. Sandy Bridge E are just the extreme variants and will be just the same as a suped up 2600 with two extra cores on top, however that's probably talking an extra 40-60% to what the 2600k can achieve.

Intels Ivy Bridge will start to get interesting with it's tri-gate and PCI-e 3.0 technology, which you'll want if you're going to be running the next gen video cards.

you are a moron. the new AMD chips are 32nm tech trying to compete with intel's sandybridge 32nm chips that have been out a while now. and AMD will struggle to compete with the $219 i5 2500k sandybridge, which means you will be paying more for a lower quality slower more expensive chip than intel's. the new chips intel will be releasing are not gaming chips, that is why they are so expensive. quit trying to compare gaming cpu to a workstation cpu, this is why amd owners are complete morons you have no clue what you are doing or talking about. now go waste your money on an inferior more expensive amd product when you could have been using a far superior i5 2500k intel chip.

Please everyone, BUY AMD CPU chips. Intel needs competition so I can buy my next Intel cpu chip cheaper.. THANKS.

Please everyone, BUY AMD Video cards. Nvidia needs competition so I can buy my next Nvidia card cheaper.. THANKS.

Work for Intel by any chance? So what were Intel owners called when the 754 and 939 sockets were King of the heap?

Is this the Bulldozer chip you're talking about?

I vastly prefer intel to be honest. If you can trust the stats from AMD, given the price points and performance (early stepping svcked though) it should have a 5-20% advantage on CURRENT sandybridge processors (though early actual stats were disappointing). There is also speculated to be be improvement when paired with a 7000 series AMD graphics card through improved parrallel processing (where applicable). I'm a bit depressed if sandy bridge -E is at the 1000 price point. A 2600k can match a 990x in most current games. The sandy E looks crap given the price, especially as you will need new mobo + new ram. I don't need to save money for a new SSD as i have a Intel 300 series 300 gig SSD.

However Intel is almost releasing Ivy Bridge (in a year X:), which will have improved overclocking (slightly), and theoretically more cores at the same price point, where as AMD has beaten intel for price per core (eg best in workstation environments). So it depends if you can wait for Ivy Bridge or really want a performance boost and didn't go for Sandy Bridge.

EDIT: the FX8150 could be worth getting, if it can overclock. I do realise that few games use 8 cores. Though I tend to pick the ones that are more core hungry eg Crysis 2, Supreme commander.. ummm... supreme commander 2...

Your an arrogrant little moron, how do you know that these chips wont live up to or be better than Sandy bridge? Go troll your intel loving crap elsewhere, you have no clue about Bulldozer it isnt a freaken desktop part it will be aimed at gamers / highend users. Now go back to you overpriced intel crap and let people discuss some new technology.

Depends whether new architecture and cores can be taken advantage of. Many games now use three, more are being released that use four. Few make use of more than four and useless the performance gain is not amazing unless you have an extreme high end graphics card configuration. Current tests have shown you gain between roughly 1-4 frames per second per additional core. The exception is when threads from other processes are chocking a single or dual core.

Rts gain more in performance from better CPU than fps games do.
