Finesse Chest

Post » Tue Jan 01, 2013 4:31 pm

While I have enjoyed most of what I have heard regarding the gameplay in ESO there has been one thing that has been bugging me. That thing is the "loot chest" that is dropped from fallen foes depending on your finesse score. So far I haven't seen much discussion about this particular gameplay mechanic. While I like the idea of special loot gained from finesse, I do not like the magical chest that just appears as shown in the videos up until now. It doesn't feel realistic (in regards to the TES universe) to me, and breaks immersion.

What do all of you think of the special loot chest? Can you think of a better way to deliver the loot than the chests?

Personally I hope they just make the chest appear in your inventory so its not so immersion breaking sitting there on the ground. In Tera when your mob drops loot it all flies out upon death and there are little icons scattered on the ground for you go scoop up and its kind of stupid looking to say the least.

I think a Golden Saint should materialize, and present you with the goodie on a silver tray... Well, I can dream... ;)

No no no... you'll be transported up into the clouds, and you will see the land below you. Then a Deity or Avatar will present you with your reward and loot.

Maybe that one happens when you take out a Boss. Sheogorath himself presents the prize. And then hits you with his cane.

So wait... a chest appears *every* time you kill a mob, or just when you kill a big huge boss monster? In GW2 you have a massive loot chest appear only when world bosses are defeated, like dragons and such. Not every time you kill a rabbit. That would be just dumb.

The way they described it is if you used synergies to bring down the mob, even with just your own skills, that if your finesse score was high enough from that process the chest appeared. Not really sure if they meant group synergies or even if you were solo this could happen. Either way you get extra loot and thats the key here, no finesse no extra loot.

I understand that part, but why not just add extra loot to the monster/NPC inventory... you loot their body afterwards, not some magical chest that appears out of thin air. As I said, I can understand if that only happens for big boss battles, but not for every rat you kill.
GW2 does something similar, if you use skill to bring down a mob, you get bonus XP, it's very nice. But I hope they keep things nice and subtle... no sense in bragging about an unobtrusive UI, then shattering immersion with dead monsters regurgitating huge treasure chests upon death...

They said that's just the way the game portrays that mechanic - better rewards with higher finesse score - right now. It's simply a placeholder for to-be-determined.

They could just add more loot to appear of the downed enemy itself. So if you killed a mudcrab by spamming m1, you get a broken carapace. But if you did some sort of fancy thing to kill it, there's also an uncommon sword on its body.

Yeah it could be just an icon of a chest that pops up when you get a finesse reward and not an actual chest that drops on the ground for all we know. They only talked about it really in the initial interviews with GI so its very likely its gone through several iterations by now.

Yeah, I have never understood why a mudcrab would be packing a sword though....and rats carry gold, where do they go to spend it? It just makes no sense at all.
