NO FINISHING KILLS AFTER 21 HOURS!

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 9:41 am

I am playing Skyrim on PC. After 21 hours of gameplay I have yet to have a finishing kill. I want this because I think it is one of the cool features of this game. Anybody have any ideas what the problem may be? Driving me nuts!! I would really appreciate some help on this.

I've only had 6 finishing moves after 30 hours. It's baffling since some people are complaining they happen all the time. As far as anyone knows it's random. But I believe you have to kill the enemy with a power attack (holding down the button) for it to have a chance of happening.

Try stealth-killing something that's on it's own. It seems that (on my character I've noticed this anyway) if you can kill something in one hit, it will automatically show a finisher. I've only had about 10 hours and I've had plenty of finishers, so I don't know why you haven't seen any

I've had them over 30 times at least (one of them on a dragon).

I got them, and I wasn't using Power Attacks, so I don't think a power attack is needed.

Weird, I've had plenty. Not as many as some seem to complain of, but certainly more than none in 20 hours!

i think the kills come from proper timing of attacks and its not just random, i think thats why ive had a ton of them because while im fighitng i wait for an opening to attack and it triggers the finishing move

Okay. This is what is so annoying and baffling. I've done a ton of one hit stealth kills from behind with a dagger and have yet to see a finisher pop up.

And now I hear someone saying they aren't even using Power Attacks and getting them . . . :banghead:

Hahaha, it's funny, because I was sceptic about having finishing moves in the game... Looks like I was right...but not for the same reasons...

Maybe it is entirely random then  Seems weird that the OP hasn't seen one in 21 hours yet, and I've seen loads in half that time.

I'm using destruction spells (flames/firebolt) in my left hand and a dagger in my right. I swear I've gotten a dagger finishing move when I was using my destruction spell from my left hand and not my dagger. 0.o Other than that in almost 9 hours I've had very, very few of them, which I'm thrilled about and they've been pretty enjoyable when they have happened. Although, I got one with stomping the guy to death which also seemed wrong, since again, I'm using my flamey spells in left hand and a dagger in my right and am not stomping anyone :shakehead:

I think the timing is key here because I get one every fight I get into litterally every fight my conjurer swordsman gets into especially when my summoned flame atronach keeps them busy while I go for a back stab

^ This.

Timing is indeed the key to getting a killing blow.

I also get it in every single fight on my warrior/archer.

I think the key for a direct melee fighter such as the warrior is to time the counterattacks, i.e, when the enemy is about to strike, you hit just before your oponents is midways in his/her attack. (Might be wrong but at least that's my only logical explanation for that setup)

I notice that the finishing moves happen most often when I am killing the last enemy of a group. I use destruction magic to clear most of the room before moving in to finish the last enemy with my axe. I am sure that you have probably killed the last enemy of a group with melee before but just wanted to let you know what was working for me.

How can timing be the key when I haven't gotten any finishing moves using a dagger to backstab? It's a one hit kill with the enemy standing still and me behind them. How can I screw up the timing on that? There is no "timing" to be had in that situation.

That is weird... I've had a steady supply of them. Luckily, I am super excited about every single one. It could be timing on your part.. I noticed I do less finishing lives when the enemy is in the middle of a complicated movement, such as when a bear is standing up to attack you. Also, finishing moves occur 99% of the time when you are killing the final enemy of a group.
