First City revealed.

Again, people complaining before they know anything. You guys see one corner of a city and all hell breaks loose. I honestly don't understand it... For all we know it could be twice the size of the imperial city.

And for the ungrateful people pissed at Pete, he doesn't have to answer your questions, just be thankful for whatever information you get. <_<

But a game that big would takes year and year AND years to make. Daggerfall was randomized, which is the only reason It could work. And I personally want a hand crafted world, not a fan of random anything when it comes to rpg's.. maybe with a few exceptions I can't think of right now

Yeah just saying I want hand crafted too dont get me wrong just saying it would be nice...I hate randomized anything majorly with RPG's...

Minecraft is now number 1.

Hah, so true. What is funny is how well it managed to randomly generate a big world, occasionally you find some pretty amazing vistas and landscapes. Some interesting mountains and realistic but unique natural formations.

It's so awesome to go through Minecraft's forums and see people sharing their worlds, and naming all the cool things they find.

Well if you think about it, Morrowind was 10 sq. mi and Oblivion was 16 sq. mi. Daggerfall was 63125 square miles so I was a little off on my approximation of 10,000 times bigger, that approximation was based on the comment that Morrowind was .01% the size of Daggerfall. Now these are the exact numbers, so yeah, let your mind run wild imagining Daggerfall with the graphics of Oblivion :obliviongate:

You dont have to be exact, it would be nice to have that fueled by Oblivions engine even better yet, Creation...awe to dream... :sleep2:

Minecraft is now number 1.

Well no, not actually. It's not a static world. It is procedurally generated as you explore it, so it actually builds itself as you play. Now if it's true static size was eight times the size of the earth then yeah, it would be. But since the world size varies for each person it could be smaller than daggerfall for one person and bigger for another.

Nah, I'd rather not have levitation back if it lets you fly freely across the world. I'd like it limited to 50-70 feet in the air and 30 feet in any direction before the constant mana drain runs you out of magicka instead of just casting it. That way you can get to a ledge you normally couldn't get to but wouldn't allow you to use it to avoid getting into fights or fleeing from a fight that is going badly for you.

I really don't know how people jumped to the conclusion that it was a ruin. It seemed pretty obvious to me that it was a city.

What forest demo?

Yeah, I guess... everything that GI saw was part of the game. Riverwood, and every other location Bethesda demo'ed.

@Silverglade: GI Skyrim's article in the February issue had a caption under the same picture that said something about Skyrim being filled with ruins everywhere. And it indeed is a ruin, a Dwemer one, but now populated by Nords.

It didn't look like a city because the screenshot does not show any NPC at all.

About Riverwood, it's a little settlement, but the activity and life in it that was showed by the screenshots gave an impression that settlements are rather big and interesting. I think 4 cities will be at least as big as half Imperial City, and one will be gigantic like Vivec City.

@ silvade sorry I meant riften haha! The city of riften which is in the southeast part of skyrim by the pine forest. I thought one of the gi guys said part of what they saw was a demo of a forest area. Maybe it was riverwood but they could have seen riften.

I'm still trying to figure out what Mastrius meant by "old news". I mean, this just happened like an hour or two ago and I made the first thread revealing it :pinch:

Oh well, I guess it's like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll. I guess the world will never know.

Btw Silvade, thanks for the question that spawned this glorious answer! Pete never seems to want to answer my questions and I always try to make them about things that seem like they can be answered without NDA problems :sadvaultboy:

They didn't mention Riften in the article, did they? They mentioned Riverwood quite a few times, the only place where I saw Riften was in that big Skyrim map in the Bethesda Tour video.

They mentioned Riverwood as a small logging community, Reach as an area in the game, they also mentioned some other areas without giving any name.

@Sleign: Lol?! You're welcome... I guess? :P

They hadn't said anything about Riften except on the map, so you didn't miss anything.

New style of Dwemer or completely unrelated, that is a gorgeous piece of city that I would love to visit. Even if there is very little cut off in the foreground of the screen, this still would seem to rival the size of most Oblivion cities, while blowing away every one of them in terms of character and uniqueness.

True that, a very unique and iconic city that diverges itself from the common fantasy towns we see in RPGs nowadays.

I don't like the new Dwemer "style" though. It doesn't look Dwemer-ish... I was expecting something more steampunk-ish. Maybe it's interiors looks like actual Dwemer architecture, though.

I'm sure they will look steam-punk inside. I really didn't like the outer look of Dwemer ruins in Morrowind, it kind've looked phony with the pipes spouting out the sides. However you can see a dwemer like vault/door on page 59 if you want to take a look. For all we know, the pipes are unique to the dwemer of Vvardenfell because of the steam they could generate from the volcano. Now that I think about it, I don't really remember seeing steam pipes in those in Redguard, they really felt more like gold plated observatories. Possibly each Dwemer society had different architecture, which would be nice.

Hmmm, interesting.

It makes me wonder, if they did lived in those ruins in Skyrim, what source of power would they use for their contraptions? As you said, in Vvardenfell, it was the steam and heat generated by the Red Moutain Volcano.

How would you do that in an freezing enviromnent like Skyrim? Can't wait to uncover more about the Dwemer! I hope we have all sorts of Dwarven artifacts back like in Morrowind, ranging from the puzzle boxes to the simple Dwemer coins.

Wow... It seems like we will have a lot of mysteries to uncover in TESV! That's what I love about Elder Scrolls, gathering all those little vague pieces of info, and solving them like a puzzle.

I am literally amazed now. I just realized how epic Skyrim is shaping up to be. Not only in terms of graphics and gameplay, but the whole lore seems deeper than Oblivion's. Hopefully it will be superior to Morrowind's!

@Silverglade: GI Skyrim's article in the February issue had a caption under the same picture that said something about Skyrim being filled with ruins everywhere. And it indeed is a ruin, a Dwemer one, but now populated by Nords.

The exact quote was 'Skyrim is filled with crumbing ruins and ancient cities.'

There were numerous clues that it was a city that everyone just chose to overlook.

1. The caption on the picture.
2. The sentence in the article that talked about cities look like they had been lived in for thousands of years.
3. The shear size of it.
4. The fact that there is no evidence in the picture of destruction, just wear and tear.
5. Both roofs are still intact.
6. The fact that it looks similar to cities in Europe and the Middle East that have been lived in for thousands of years.

I'm not sure calling a city that has been inhabited since the the early days of life on the continent is a ruin. I'm sure all those people that live in the Middle East and Europe wouldn't appreciate you calling their 2000+ year old cities ruins. I don't think I've ever heard someone call Rome a ruin. Sure, it has ruins, but that doesn't make it a ruin.

All of the clues were there, but just a few people seemed to put them all together.
