first person is too zoomed in.

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 3:33 pm

It seems like first person is too zoomed in. I don't like playing in third person, but the view in first person is too limiting that I'm sometimes forced to change just to see what's going on (like when a dragon attacks and is flying around and I can't see it at all). Any way to fix this?

Are you on pc? You can change this with the console. Type fov xx
Where xx is the value you want. Try 80

No it's not. This game is perfect and Bethesda are the greatest developers in the world. No other company would dare to put dragons that fly backwards into a game.

I agree that it does feel like telescope vision sometimes but unfortunately that's the game we're stuck with.

The better console command would be "SetCameraFOV xx", because the "fov xx" command messed up the color of my menu skyrim logo and the ingame map :D
By the way fov 90 looks better than fov 80. The default fov is just ridiculous...

But what if he, like, totally doesn't want to "zoom out" because he like stated he wants to play in first person and stuff?

If you're on PC type "fov xx" to console, if you're on a console you can't do anything about it.

Also learn how to zoom out, it's a function already built into the game.
learn how to read. As in, read what I originally wrote and don't want to play in 3rd person.

Yeah, I forget to mention that because I forget that console users are now prevalent here.

The proper field of view varies by your screen size and your distance from the screen. Console games typically have low FOV because they assume people are going to be playing on the opposite side of the room from the television, or at the least several feet away. It also doesn't hurt that lowering the FOV increases performance because then the hardware doesn't have to render as much at once. This is why console games (and games poorly ported from consoles) typically have a FOV around 70 degrees. A PC game on the other hand, is played on a monitor that's within arm's length. It occupies more of your real field of view, thus the virtual FOV needs to be set higher to not look unsettling.

This made a huge a difference, I could immediately tell the difference.

If you don't like zoomed in views, then don't play first person. I'm not sure how someone "zooms out" from a first person perspective. There's plenty of zooming to be had with 3rd person, so either deal with your problem of playing in third person or make a mod.

I use 95 and that seems to work the best for me. Most games developed for consoles have a very low default field of view.

I just wish they had made this a setting in the ini file. You will have to change it through the console on every start up though. The game always resets it.
