Because it's a staple of the TES franchise.

No one is forcing you to use it. Play in third and you'll be happy.

Considering that most MMOs out there offer a first person perspective no great that zooming into your camera and pivoting around on the spot, yes, I can understand why you wouldn't. Ever tried playing WoW in first person? It feels like you're in a house of mirrors.

Knowing that TESO will support animations, damage indicator and the like and I think the a lot of people will find it much easier to play in that perspective and get something out of it. As Leperchans said, it is a staple part of the TES diet.

Those are good points, but truth is, if you're in first-person you have a much more limited view of your surroundings and the environment than someone playing in third-person. You'd be at a huge disadvantage in any challenging end-game PVE, or any PVP, in a number of ways just due to the nature of the two viewpoints.

In first-person you have one fixed forward view from your character and it isn't a 360 surrounding you. In third-person you can tell exactly where someone went around your character, see enemies behind you or coming in to ambush you from the sides, and get a better idea of spell effects and their areas/shapes.

First-person will be great for roleplayers or people who simply want to play the game mostly single-player or casually with friends, though. Personally I couldn't have cared much less about its inclusion, but it is important to a lot of people so I'm glad they added it. Options are good. Choice is good.

I think you're misunderstanding my post there. I was simply pointing out inherent differences between the two viewpoints, and as I said I personally don't care about first-person at all but for other players wanting it. I'll never use it, myself. My point was that having the option for those who did want it is a good thing. I'll be in zoomed-out third-person 100% of the time.

Indeed. I really don't get the resistance to having options available for people in general, in the community. It's a good thing™ to allow people to suit the game towards their preferences, and you to do so towards yours.

In that case, sorry for the misunderstanding but you should make that clearer next time.

As pertaining to the views, I will use the both accordingly to best suit my current circumstance.
